If you intend to get the current Xiaomi Redmi Note phablet, read this before you decide. Because Xiaomi’s going to officially unveil an upgraded Redmi Note.

Not much information was revealed by Xiaomi co-founder Bin Lin on his Facebook page besides a teaser image of the Redmi Note with the caption, “a lighter, faster Redmi Note is coming”. And by coming, he means in the next few hours.

The Redmi Note unit on the teaser shows it running on a 4G connection with China Mobile, strongly insinuating that the model will be able to run on 4G LTE when it launches. The exterior of the phone seems to look the same, but its specs might be upgraded as well.

Previously, rumours have indicated that the pimped up Redmi Note will also have a new chipset and an updated operating system – it’s said to feature either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 or MediaTek MT6595 chipset, in addition to the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS.

Sources earlier claimed that the upgraded Redmi Note was to be launched on 22 July, but Xiaomi used that event to out the flagship Mi4 smartphone and budget Mi Band instead. Perhaps, it intended to do so on a later date to clear stock of the existing Redmi Notes.

Despite the fact that people have been complaining about the non-4G Redmi Note variant on Xiaomi Malaysia’s Facebook page, the unit has been quite popular with the masses. One of its flash sale waves even saw 13,000 Xiaomi devices, including the Redmi Note, sell out in about 15 minutes.

Perhaps, now that the Redmi Note is due out with 4G LTE as per customer expectation, Xiaomi can beat its own record and sell out the units in a shorter period of time. The only question that remains is, will it support the 4G networks here? We'll know soon enough if it appears on Xiaomi's Malaysia website.
