Tekken 7 leaked at EVO 2014
Between the acts of bravery, the upsets, the emotional roller-coaster that was EVO 2014, a trailer for a new 3D fighting game Tekken 7 was leaked prior to the official announcement.
The game will be the next installment in a very long and drawn-out series, and players are more impatient for improvements in gameplay rather than story. At the event, the Tekken 7 logo was briefly shown on one of the projectors on the main stage. Later, AOL linked to an IGN report of the game, before IGN had actually posted their video.
Clearly, someone jumped the gun, but it doesn't matter because the announcement came through a couple of hours later in Las Vegas.
Unreal Engine 4 boost
The trailer for the game boasts the Unreal Engine 4 logo and showcases some of the cinematic potential the game could offer, though we’ll have to keep our eyes open whether it'll be the same during actual fights.
Katsuhiro Harada, the series executive producer and game director had a lot of good things to say about Unreal Engine 4, saying “with Unreal Engine 4, we can rapidly achieve visual quality expected on next-gen platforms and go beyond it. Not only is Unreal Engine 4 powerful and easy to use, it allows us to immediately bring Tekken 7 to any platform we desire.”
For now, no word has been given on which particular consoles they’re aiming for or when the game should be arriving to consumers.
The series’ showing at EVO this year was Tekken Tag Tournament 2, with a comparatively small estimated turnout (250~) and payout (US$4500 for 1st place) compared to Ultra Street Fighter 4’s 2000 entrants or Blazblue’s astounding estimated US$20,000 first place payout or its US$35,000 pot. If the game drops before next year’s EVO, it could inject some life into the world of true 3D fighters again.
