Huawei Ascend P7 packs in a full HD screen, quad-core power and an 8MP front-facing camera for hi-res selfies

The P6's successor has been unveiled, and it's clad in gorgeous Gorilla Glass

Huawei has officially revealed the P7, its follow up to last year's super-slim P6.

Like its predecessor, the P7 won't bulge out your pockets, thanks to its svelte 6.5mm thin body. Its 124g weight won't weigh your jeans down either.

The front and back of the P7 is slathered in scratch resistant Gorilla Glass 3, and the dotted pattern on the rear glass panel looks rather attractive, in our eyes at least.

The P7's 5in full HD screen pits it agains other current smartphone flagships like the LG G2 and HTC One (M8), while thin side bezels help shrink down the overall size of the phone itself.

On paper, the P7's 1.8GHz quad-core HiSilicon Kirin 910T processor and 2GB of RAM seem plenty powerful enough, but we have to wait and see if the relatively unknown processor can stack up against the likes of Qualcomm's impressive Snapdragon series.

While the P7's rear 13MP Sony camera promises to deliver detailed shots, most of the attention is focused on the front snapper, which is an 8MP wide-angle affair.

Huawei has touted the P7 as a formidable selfie and - shudder - 'groufie' (group selfie) device, so if you'd rather snap a photo of your face than a stunningly beautiful natural vista, then this is the device for you.

More after the break...

Other specs include a 2500mAh battery which promises up to 14 hours of talk time, as well as Android KitKat 4.4, which is overlaid with Huawei's Emotion UI.

There's no price or release date for the Ascend P7 for the time being, but Huawei's going to have to launch it at a substantially lower price point than ints competition if it wants to tempt people away from established smartphone giants like HTC and Samsung.

Stay tuned for a full review to see if you should consider jumping ship to the Huawei camp.
