Thin is in - the Huawei Ascend P6 lands in Malaysia

Wafer thin, stylish and full of premium performance promises, Huawei's new smartphone arrives on our shores

Claiming to be the world's thinnest smart phone is a big boast but Huawei's new Ascend P6 that measures only 6.18mm thick might just live up to that. Packed with a 1.5GHz Huawei made quad core processor, 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage (which can be supplemented with an extra microSD), thinness isn't the only thing this smartphone has either.

Huawei has eschewed the plastic and rubberised build of its previous Ascend models and opted for the brushed aluminum build, which really props it up in the whole design department (which means no more cheap, Chinese made jokes). Its 4.7 inch 720p LCD screen pairs bumps it up close to the "phablet" range which will make media viewing a whole lot more enjoyable and to back that up, Huawei has included an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p recording. For the narcissists out there, you'll love the "beauty shot" feature of the camera, giving you that virtual facelift whenever you take selfies with the 5 megapixel front camera.

It also comes with some pretty decent battery life at 2000mAh so it should last you a good bit of the day before needing a charge.

Like Huawei's previous models, the Ascend P6 comes with the company's own Emotion UI complete with theme options for the more creative.  Also new to the UI is the panoramic shot and facial recognition features that will back up the 8 megapixel camera.

One disappointment though was the lack of NFC and LTE on the phone. With flagship smartphones like the Sony Xperia Z offering those functions as standard, it would have been nice to see Huawei stepping up to the plate. However with a price of RM1399, the Huawei Ascend P6 does make up for the lack of those two functionalities.
