My Gadget Life – Suzi Perry

The TV presenter on RAF night flying, Lytro cameras and submarine dating

I’ve loved gadgets since I was nine.

When I was a kid in the ’80s it was never clothes and make-up that I wanted, it was a radio or camera. My dad had an eight-track in his car, and I thought it was amazing that you could have your own music with you. I’ve still got that eight-track, and the cassettes.

Photography is my favourite gadget area.

My first camera was a Polaroid – I got a thrill out of seeing a picture appear after two minutes. I really want to get a Leica D-Lux, but right now I’ve got various cameras: a Panasonic Lumix and the Nikon 1.

The Lytro camera is the piece of tech I’m most excited about at the moment.

I’m sure the Lytro light field tech will make its way into a phone. I tested 4G at the end of last year, and it does make a big difference. So I can’t wait for that, either.

My favourite moment on The Gadget Show was flying at night with the RAF.

We were testing night vision goggles, hanging out the back of an open Chinook helicopter. We tried everything that was on the market, and then one of the pilots gave me his RAF NVGs. You could see every blade of grass.

Looking for love? Get yourself a submarine.

I tested an EBoatWorks personal sub in St Tropez, and met the man I married while I was there. So that’s my dating tip – get into the Mediterranean in your personal sub and drive it up to the dock at St Tropez.
