It has a 5.5in screen - up from 5.2in on the G2 - which puts it firmly into phablet territory, but it somehow fits that display into a smartphone-sized body.</p> <p>How does it do this? By all-but doing away with the bezels. The G2 was already pretty good in this regard, but the G3 takes it to a new level; from the front, it&#39;s almost all glass.</p> <p>It&#39;s also surprisingly easy to hold and use despite that big screen. That&#39;s thanks to the noticeable curve round the back, which makes it easier to grip and fools your hand into thinking that it&#39;s smaller than it is. You won&#39;t need to stretch your fingers in order to reach the top of the screen.</p> <p>Speaking of the back, it&#39;s a mostly plastic affair but again you might well be fooled into thinking otherwise. Though the G3&rsquo;s body is technically 80% polycarbonate, the 20% of metal mixed in with it gives it a premium look, even if it can&#39;t quite match the HTC One (M8)&rsquo;s premium feel. We&#39;d certainly choose it over the Galaxy S5&#39;s plaster-like back, and while the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sony/sony-xperia-z2/review">Sony Xperia Z2</a>&#39;s slab-of-glass design might be prettier, you&#39;d rather have this in your hands (or pockets) than Sony&#39;s hefty handset.&nbsp;</p> <p><iframe frameborder="0" height="470" scrolling="no" src="http://gfycat.com/ifr/DetailedClearcutCobra" width="650"></iframe></p> <p>The G3 is also considerably lighter than both the M8 and Z2 - and unlike either of those phones has&nbsp;a removable rear cover too. That allows for a battery swap-out, should you need one, and also gives you access to the microSD slot, which would otherwise have to sit on the G3&#39;s pristine sides. Plus, it makes&nbsp;wireless charging possible, if you team it with a suitable charger.</p> <p>If you do juice it up via the traditional microUSB port, you&#39;ll notice that there&#39;s no pesky removable plastic cover; of course that also means that it&#39;s not waterproof in the way that the Sony and Samsung phones are, which has to earn it a tick in the minus column.</p> <p dir="ltr">Loved the rear buttons on the G2? You&rsquo;ll adore the G3&rsquo;s improved versions. Where the power and volume controls on the G2 were somewhat unsightly, they now have a nice textured finish and a sophisticated design, which makes them both easier to locate and to work out which is which.</p> <p dir="ltr">G2 upgraders will adapt to the G3&rsquo;s new design like a fish to water, but that&rsquo;s not to say first-time users will be baffled by the rear placement. Sure, you might struggle to find them the first few times but in our experience new users get about a 90% hit rate within seconds of picking the phone up. Using your index finger, to be honest, will soon feel more natural and less strenuous than stretching your thumbs to the sides of the Galaxy S5, One (M8) or Xperia Z2.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE</strong>:&nbsp;<strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/g3/lg-g3-vs-samsung-galaxy-s5-weigh/feature">LG G3 vs Samsung Galaxy S5: the weigh-in</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="We love the G3&#039;s new and improved rear buttons" alt="LG G3 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20Build%2001_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="LG G3 review" alt="Bezel? It&#39;s bigger and sharper than those on any of its rivals, while fitting in a similar size body. Pretty cool, huh? With 2560 x 1440 pixels adorning its IPS+ panel, your peepers are going to get one heck of a treat. In terms of pixel density it equates to 534ppi - higher than any phone we&#39;ve yet seen.</p> <p dir="ltr">So how much difference does it make in real life? A fair bit, actually. While its&nbsp;true value is felt only when you press your nose against the screen, or have the right 2K content,&nbsp;even the naked eye can spot how fine the edges of app icons are on the G3 when compared to those on the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One (M8) and the Sony Xperia Z2.</p> <p dir="ltr">It also means that it&#39;ll look just as good when viewed from further away, and bear in mind that&nbsp;if LG had stuck with a 1080p display on a screen of this size, it would lack sharpness compared to its slightly smaller rivals.</p> <p dir="ltr">We placed the G3 side-by-side with the Galaxy S5, without revealing the resolution of the two devices to anyone. Nearly 100% of the people we asked spotted the difference in screen quality almost immediately, pointing out the sharpness of the G3&rsquo;s display.&nbsp;</p> <p dir="ltr">As far as the colour palette goes, the G3 aims for the natural look. It&#39;s noticeably cooler than the Galaxy S5&rsquo;s warm AMOLED display, and not quite as punchy either. Grass looks like real grass, for instance, rather than some ultra-green alien variety.</p> <p dir="ltr">The One (M8) and Xperia Z2 fall somewhere between the two extremes, and which you prefer will depend to a large extent on, erm, which you prefer. The G3 would be our pick for films, on account of the more realistic hues - particularly when it comes to skintones - but for games and web browsing the S5 will look more vibrant. The G3&#39;s&nbsp;also slightly lacking in the contrast department, and doesn&rsquo;t have the deep black tones that you&rsquo;ll get from the One (M8).</p> <p dir="ltr">Outside, it&#39;s a decent performer. Its auto-brightness adapted swiftly, beaming crystal-sharp images, videos and text to our pupils. But it definitely doesn&#39;t go as bright as the S5: a good thing in terms of battery life, less so if you&#39;re viewing it in bright sunshine. Plus,&nbsp;the default video player automatically dims videos to a lower brightness level - so you&#39;ll want to use an alternative such as VLC.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>READ MORE</strong>:&nbsp;<strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/g3/lg-g3-vs-htc-one-m8-weigh/feature">LG G3 vs HTC One (M8): the weigh-in</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="That Stuff logo is looking fine" alt="LG G3 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20Display%2001_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="LG G3 review" alt="Games will look great on the 2K screen" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20Display%2002_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="900" title="LG G3 review" alt="The G3&#039;s brightness isn&#039;t the absolute best" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20Display%2003_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Camera: laser-sharp focus </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p dir="ltr">You probably already read about the laser-focus camera, but let&#39;s just make it clear: it&#39;s a work of genius.</p> <p dir="ltr">The laser enables the G3 to focus more swiftly than any of rivals and also means that you can take a series of photos simply by tapping the screen repeatedly. That&#39;s right - no need to do one&nbsp;tap to focus/refocus and another to actually take the photo: just let the laser do the work, tap and you&rsquo;re done.</p> <p dir="ltr">Admittedly, the Galaxy S5 comes close in terms of autofocus and speed, and the One (M8) and Xperia Z2 aren&#39;t that far behind either. We&#39;re talking milliseconds either way - but that can make the difference between a crisp shot and a blurry mess on occasion.</p> <p>As far as the 13MP photos themselves go, expect&nbsp;minimal noise, sharp details and well-balanced colours.&nbsp; And this isn&rsquo;t just the work of the 2K screen. We used a 13in MacBook Pro (non-Retina Display, by the way) to view&nbsp;photos taken on the G3, S5, M8 and Z2 on, and the G3&#39;s shots were both&nbsp;less blurry and less noisey.&nbsp;</p> <p><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="281" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/125343102@N05/sets/72157644739351589/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="500"></iframe></p> <p dir="ltr">If daylight shots are great, the G3 is similarly fantastic in low light. That&#39;s partly down to the laser - which grabs focus more accurately in murky conditions than a conventional autofocus - but also down to impressively noise-free shots. Plus, with the dual-LED flash deployed, human subjects look less washed out, though there is still a tinge of overexposure when the flash tries to compensate for less well-lit environments. The M8 beats it when there&#39;s almost no light, but in most conditions the G3 fares very well.</p> <p dir="ltr">Like the G2, the G3 is armed with optical image stabilisation. Sharper images are a given, since it&rsquo;ll combat any blurriness induced by shaky hands; we found it particularly useful when we were trying to balance the phone while attempting to take a macro shot. But like&nbsp;its earlier phablet cousin the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/android/lg-g-pro-2/review">LG G Pro 2</a>, the G3 is armed with OIS+ rather than the standard OIS. This uses software tricks to further ramp up the stabilisation effect, and it appears to work very well.</p> <p dir="ltr">OIS+ also serves another purpose - namely enhancing the after-image focusing option, or Magic Focus in LG&rsquo;s lingo. It&#39;s a feature that&#39;s also found on the One (M8), but where that phone has a dedicated second lens for that purpose, the G3 instead takes multiple images at different focal lengths with the one lens. The results aren&#39;t quite as impressive as those from the M8, but in some situations it works quite nicely, enabling you to change the focus of a picture after you&#39;ve taken it.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>READ MORE</strong>: <strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/moto-g/best-cheap-smartphone-you-can-buy/feature">Group test - the best cheap smartphones you can buy&nbsp;</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Capturing the fine gap between lines" alt="LG G3 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20camera%20test%2001_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="LG G3 review" alt="Colours are mostly well-balanced" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20camera%20test%2002_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="900" title="LG G3 review" alt="Coarse text looks significantly finer in photos" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20camera%20test%20shot%2003_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p dir="ltr">All that jazz with the different shooting modes that the G2 has? Gone with the wind. Compared to the G2, the camera interface is a simple affair, with only four main modes - dual, panorama, magic focus and auto. It&#39;s beautifully clean and basic.&nbsp;</p> <p dir="ltr">Of course if you do want more control, you can have it. And when you do dabble with its settings, there&rsquo;s a lot more you can do with it. The aforementioned cheese shutter has its moments, and is most accurate when we uttered &ldquo;kimchi&rdquo; to activate the shutter.</p> <p dir="ltr">The front 2MP camera is designed for both video calling and, in a very 2014 manner, selfies. The good news is, you won&rsquo;t have to tap the screen to activate the timer. In a move somewhat inspired by the&nbsp;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwiyomi" target="_blank">gwiyomi viral video</a>, you can hold your hand in front of the camera, clench your fist, and it&rsquo;ll activate the timer. It makes sense, as it reduces the chance of you losing your grip and watching the G3 plummet to its death.</p> <p dir="ltr">Quality-wise it&#39;s clear, though not amazing in poor light, and probably about on a par with the HTC One (M8) for Skype duties.</p> <p dir="ltr">Elsewhere, there&#39;s also 4K video, which is generally very smooth. Nor does it make the handset get too warm, as the Xperia Z2 has a tendency to do.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>READ MORE</strong>:&nbsp;<strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sony/sony-xperia-z2/review">Sony Xperia Z2 review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Tap and snap, that&#039;s what we call simple photography" alt="LG G3 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20Camera%2001_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Even the advanced settings look cleaner than its predecessors&#039; UI" alt="LG G3 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20Camera%2002_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-4"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Performance: as good as 2014 gets </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p dir="ltr">The G3 tested here packs a quad-core&nbsp;Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor running at&nbsp;2.5GHz, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. That version won&#39;t be available in the UK though (at least not for a while), so we&#39;ll have to put up with a 2GB RAM/16GB storage model. Will that make a difference to performance? It&#39;s possible. But then again, the G2 also has&nbsp;2GB of RAM, and we never noticed so much as a stutter on that.</p> <p dir="ltr">Anyway, back to the G3.&nbsp;Let&#39;s start with the numbers:&nbsp;AnTuTu scores of between 30,981 and 32,844 for this unit place it slightly lower than the M8, while Geekbench 2 returned 2427 (higher than M8) and Sunspider 884.1ms (about the same as the G2 and lower than the M8 - and lower is better). There&#39;s not much between the G3 and its rivals, basically.</p> <p dir="ltr">In practice, the review unit showed none of the stutters we experienced on the pre-production unit we tried out last month: so, no lag from the dialler or when swiping through contacts. More importantly, apps loaded in a mere 2-3 seconds and even graphically intensive games such as&nbsp;<em>Injustice: Gods Among Us</em>&nbsp;were handled by the G3 like a pro.</p> <p dir="ltr">Just because we could, we threw up to 16 apps, which included&nbsp;<em>Dead Trigger</em>,&nbsp;<em>Injustice</em>&nbsp;and the recent&nbsp;<em>Watch_Dogs</em>&nbsp;mobile game, into the fray. None of that fazed the G3, even as we made short work of enemies with characters from the DC universe. Admittedly, there was some slight lag in the menu transition, and new apps loaded slightly more slowly, but overall it performed as well as we could&#39;ve hoped given what we were doing to it.</p> <p dir="ltr">Web browsing is a joy: on a 4G connection, pages load blazingly fast, filling the screen in just a few blinks.&nbsp; It also handles full HD films with aplomb - there&#39;s absolutely no lag and we didn&rsquo;t spot any frames dropping during action sequences. Bear in mind that&nbsp;pupil-searing screen and you&#39;ve got a top-notch movie player.&nbsp; The speaker is also vastly improved over that on the G2 - it&#39;s now a 1W affair located round the back of the phone and while it&#39;s not as good as the dual speakers on the M8, it&#39;s on a par with the Z2 and S5 and is thus perfectly usable.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Qualcomm&#039;s Snapdragon 801 processor doesn&#039;t disappoint" alt="LG G3 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20Performance%2001_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-title"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> LG G3 Tech Specs </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-body-text"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Body Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>Operating System:</strong>&nbsp;Android 4.4 KitKat</p> <p><strong>Processor:</strong>&nbsp;2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor</p> <p><strong>RAM:</strong>&nbsp;3GB (2GB version available)</p> <p><strong>Screen:</strong>&nbsp;5.5in True HD-IPS + LCD with 2560 x 1440 resolution (534ppi)</p> <p><strong>Camera:</strong>&nbsp;13MP rear, 2MP front</p> <p><strong>Storage:&nbsp;</strong>32GB internal (16GB version available), plus microSD up to 128GB</p> <p><strong>Data:</strong>&nbsp;3G / 4G/LTE</p> <p><strong>Battery:</strong>&nbsp;3000mAh</p> <p><strong>Size:</strong>&nbsp;146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm</p> <p><strong>Weight:</strong>&nbsp;149g</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-5"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> OS: simple and clean </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p dir="ltr">The G2&#39;s skin was a bit of messy affair, but&nbsp;LG has stripped out a whole load of features for the G3 and it&#39;s a big improvement.</p> <p dir="ltr">Turn it on and you&rsquo;ll be greeted by a much cleaner user interface. The most prominent change is in its notification screen - clean as a whistle, with nary a sign of the clutter and cartoonish icons that plagued its predecessor.</p> <p dir="ltr">We still prefer the HTC M8&#39;s Sense 6 skin overall, but where the G2 was held back by its OS, the G3 faces no such problems. It even has a few nice new features of its own.</p> <p dir="ltr">Take Smart Clean for instance, which clears up cache files that would otherwise use up precious storage space. OK so space shouldn&#39;t be a problem given the microSD slot, but a little housekeeping will always help keep the user experience smooth. One warning though: Smart Clean will remove downloaded files, so if you&rsquo;ve been swiping photos from the web, you&rsquo;d best keep them stored somewhere else, like Google Drive.</p> <p dir="ltr">Then there&#39;s Smart Notice, which is like Google Now in that it serves up cards featuring suggestions such as activating your battery saver when the G3 is running low on juice. It also&nbsp;works seamlessly with the LG Health function, giving you a day-by-day update and reminder that it&rsquo;s time to get off your lazy backside and shed those accumulated calories.</p> <p dir="ltr">LG Health is itself a useful tool. It uses the phone&#39;s sensors to measure the number of steps you&#39;ve taken, then works out how many calories you&#39;ve burned. It&#39;s probably not quite as accurate as a Jawbone Up or other basic fitness tracker, but it&#39;s close enough that you won&#39;t notice much difference over the course of a day. Lugging the phone for a quick run isn&#39;t a major chore given how light the G3 is, although you might want to strap it to an armband to focus on the run.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Goodbye cartoonish icons" alt="LG G3 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20OS%2001_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="A little (storage) housekeeping will go a long way" alt="LG G3 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20OS%2002_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-6"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p dir="ltr">Out of all of the improvements, it&#39;s the Smart Keyboard which will make the biggest difference. Much like Swype, the semi-sentient keyboard picks up on your most frequently typed words, and learns which autocorrect terms are the ones you&rsquo;ll need more often. And yes, you can simply swipe across letters rather than painstakingly type each one. Correcting your messages is also much easier - simply press and hold the spacebar, and you can scroll along the message to where the correction is need. Plus, there&#39;s no need to stretch your thumbs when the autocorrected word appears - just swipe along the left or right side to select the right word.</p> <p><iframe class="vine-embed" frameborder="0" height="600" src="https://vine.co/v/Mj0MWiXDup7/embed/simple" width="600"></iframe></p> <p dir="ltr">Keyboard adjustments, such as splitting for two-handed use or swiping the keyboard to a side for one-handed operation, are retained. A new addition is height adjustment, which either gives you more screen space to read your typed messages or enables thicker thumbs to get more space between letters, and thus&nbsp;reduce typos.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="No more stretching exercises for short thumbs" alt="LG G3 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20OS%2003_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-7"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><iframe class="vine-embed" frameborder="0" height="600" src="https://vine.co/v/Mj0be5QulDE/embed/simple" width="600"></iframe></p> <p dir="ltr">Features wise, the usual suspects are still around. Knock On is present and correct, and we love being able to double-tap the screen and glance at your notifications rather than having to pick up the G3 and click on the rear power button. But the M8 and Z2 also have that ability now - whereas they don&#39;t have LG&#39;s Knock Code. This lets you set a combination of taps to unlock your phone, and it quickly become essential.</p> <p dir="ltr">There&#39;s also a Dual Window function which works with LG and Google apps and which makes good use of all that screen space. The Samsung S5 can do the same thing, but is a little bit better in that it also works with third-party apps such as Evernote and Facebook.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>READ MORE</strong>:&nbsp;<strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-s5-prime/samsung-galaxy-s5-prime/review">Everything we know about the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-8"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Accessories: a window of shortcuts </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p dir="ltr">This year, LG&rsquo;s adding a whole load of accessories to complement the G3. Similar to its predecessor, essential functions such as the music player, camera, call logs, messaging and LG&rsquo;s health tracker will appear in the small window. With the camera, it&rsquo;s particularly useful when you need to take a quick snapshot, while LG Health will guilt-trip you into walking home to shed those extra calories after that indulgent dinner.</p> <p dir="ltr">As for wireless charging, anything that conforms to the Qi standard will work, but LG&rsquo;s own wireless charger is quite a nifty little thing. While we didn&rsquo;t manage to try the unit in this review, we definitely like the idea of placing the phone upright and reading our emails while the wireless charger juices it up.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE</strong>:&nbsp;<strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-s5/samsung-galaxy-s5/review">Samsung Galaxy S5 review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="You don&#039;t even need to flip the cover to use the camera" alt="LG G3 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20Accessories%2001_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Add or remove shortcuts, it&#039;s all in your power to do so" alt="LG G3 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20Accessories%2002_0.jpg?1408532114" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-9"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Battery: good, not great </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p dir="ltr">We&rsquo;re looking at a 2K screen. That&rsquo;s way more pixels for the 3000mAh battery to power, and despite LG&#39;s assurances to the contrary, it doesn&#39;t quite have the stamina that the G2 has.</p> <p dir="ltr">On average, we got about 15 hours from it. And given that our daily usage includes plenty of web surfing, Facebook and YouTube-watching, plus the usual calls and WhatsApp messages in-between and some intensive use of its 13MP camera, that&#39;s still pretty good</p> <p dir="ltr">As usual, we gave in to our sadistic streak, activated the G3&rsquo;s Wi-Fi connection and ran a full HD video at half brightness to stress test its uptime. Within the first hour, we noticed a 10% dip, and once we&rsquo;d switched over to a 4G connection at the 50% mark, the G3 managed a total mileage of nearly nine hours.</p> <p dir="ltr">So, while it doesn&#39;t quite manage the nearly invincible 19 hours of real world usage we got from the G2, the G3&#39;s 15-hour mileage comes pretty close, and is a testament to the power-saving features that LG has implemented. It also compares favourably to its rivals. We&#39;d put it on a par with the Z2 and S5 and slightly ahead of the M8. But they&#39;re all pretty close, and the fact is that as with most smartphones you&#39;ll get a day&#39;s use out of it then charge it up overnight.&nbsp;</p> <p dir="ltr">On that front, its charger can stand toe-to-toe with The Flash, juicing up the unit to a full charge under two hours.&nbsp;Plus, with the battery now being removable, you can always carry a spare with you for emergencies.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em><strong>Update 24/06/14: &nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;The UK version of the G3 gave us a respectable five hours of screen-on time, and the battery hit 5% after a total of 15 hours. We would count our usage as moderately heavy. A two hour commute in the morning, listening to music and web browsing, was repeated for another two hours at the end of the day. In between we sent numerous texts, and emails, downloaded some apps and browsed some more.</em></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Our video rundown test (Wi-Fi on, sync on, 720p looped video at 50% brightness) saw the G3 die after exactly 9 hours and 25 minutes.&nbsp;</em></p> <p><strong>READ MORE</strong>:&nbsp;<strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/htc/htc-one-2/review">HTC One (M8) review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-10"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> LG G3 Verdict </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p dir="ltr">As we said at the start of this review, the G3 surprised us. While we hoped it would continue the great work started by the G2, we weren&#39;t expecting it to prove quite so much of a leap forward. Most phone upgrades these days are incremental, after all, but the G3 is manifestly better than its predecessor.&nbsp;</p> <p dir="ltr">And that&#39;s the case in almost every regard - from little touches such as the&nbsp;sleeker back buttons to the sophisticated look of its 20% brushed-metal body and major changes such as the bigger, better 2K screen and laser-assisted camera.</p> <p dir="ltr">The only way in which it&#39;s not better than the G2 is on battery life, but considering all that LG has crammed into the G3, the fact that it still lasts 15hrs is to be applauded.</p> <p dir="ltr">Ultimately, there&#39;s barely a single thing wrong with the G3 and so, so much that is right with it. It turns out this 5.2in slab of metal and glass won&rsquo;t even compromise its stunning design for something as important as the size and shape of human hands.</p> <fieldset class="fieldgroup group-pricing"><legend>Pricing</legend><div class="field field-type-number-float field-field-test-price"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> £450.00 </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-price-from"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> 0 </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="fieldgroup group-ratings"><legend>Ratings</legend><div class="field field-type-hcmreviewrating-rating field-field-overall-rating"> <div class="field-label">Overall rating:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="hcmrating-default">10 stars</div> </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-pros"> <div class="field-label">Pros:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Premium design </div> <div class="field-item even"> Gorgeous screen that’s perfect for movies </div> <div class="field-item odd"> Water resistant </div> <div class="field-item even"> Smartphone camera worthy of the Sony name </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-cons"> <div class="field-label">Cons:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Premium price </div> <div class="field-item even"> Big, uncompromising build gets awkward </div> <div class="field-item odd"> Bits of bloatware </div> <div class="field-item even"> Only 16GB of storage built in </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>Review Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Why so soon? </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>With the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/honami/sony-xperia-honami-z1/review" target="_blank">Xperia Z1</a> just six months old, this new Sony flagship could be accused of making only incremental upgrades. The 20.7MP sensor in the camera is also slightly bigger, capable of shooting 4K video and bristling with new features.</p> <p>The Z2 also arrives with the latest version of Android, KitKat, out of the box too - the Z1&rsquo;s still waiting for its own upgrade. Watched off axis, colours would fade away and text would become tricky to decipher</p> <p>Not so the Z2, which has improved performance immeasurably. Viewing angles on the new 5.2in IPS display may not be quite perfect, but it&rsquo;s no longer a critical flaw.</p> <p>And it&rsquo;s not the only way the Z2 improves on the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/honami/sony-xperia-honami-z1/review" target="_blank">Z1&rsquo;s screen</a>. Colours - which were already eye-popping - are now even more vivid thanks to Sony&rsquo;s Live Colour LED tech. Stick on a full HD video and you&rsquo;ll also notice that contrast is outstanding and detail plentiful. Apps, emails and webpages look crisp and clean and you can even geek out and tweak the white balance. The viewing experience is further enhanced by the clear and loud stereo speakers, which Sony has moved to the front of phone and which rival the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/htc/htc-one-2/review" target="_blank">HTC One (M8)&rsquo;s</a> for quality, if not volume.</p> <p>For settling down at home or giving Planet Earth another viewing on the train, the Sony&rsquo;s screen is simply superb. Living with it, there are a couple of niggles to consider. Firstly, the black, featureless front of the Z2 is a fiend for reflecting light and seems to delight in showing up both fingerprints and specks of dust. Secondly, it&rsquo;s not quite as bright as the likes of the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-s5/samsung-galaxy-s5/review" target="_blank">Samsung Galaxy S5</a>, making its rival a better bet for outdoor use.</p> <p>Then there&rsquo;s Sony&rsquo;s X-Reality engine - a feature which supposedly enhances the picture, but which in our time with it seemed to overdo things. It might be switched on as default, but turning it off is one of the first things we&rsquo;d do. And finally, as beautiful as 1080p movies look in Sony&rsquo;s own app, in every other video player app the picture looks dim even cranked up to full brightness. Which is a shame.</p> <p>So it&rsquo;s not perfect, then, but none of these flaws are major, and in almost every way the Z2&rsquo;s screen is a stunner.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE</strong>: <strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-s5/samsung-galaxy-s5-vs-htc-one-m8/feature" target="_blank">Samsung Galaxy S5 versus HTC One (M8)&nbsp;</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Eye-caressing 1080p screen " alt="Eye-caressing 1080p screen " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/sony-xperia-z2-review-screen-1.png?1408532390" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Movies Unlimited is one of Sony&#039;s excellent media services " alt="Movies Unlimited is one of Sony&#039;s excellent media services " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/sony-xperia-z2-review-movies-unlimited.png?1408532390" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> A Camera that&#039;ll trounce your compact </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>For a smartphone camera, the Z2 is capable of taking downright incredible photos.&nbsp;</p> <p>That&rsquo;s no surprise considering it&rsquo;s packing a 1/2.5in, 20.7MP Exmor RS sensor with an f/2.0 lens. Stills are punchy, well exposed and have tons of detail to crop into across all the resolution options - 8MP, 15.5MP, 20.7MP. Framing and autofocus are seriously speedy, too. Point the Z2 at your subject and, combined with its processing power and brilliant screen, it&rsquo;s like you&rsquo;re looking straight through the smartphone. And instantly too. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>As well as including tons of fun features (try background defocus for wow factor), Sony&rsquo;s kept its excellent manual controls. EV, ISO, white balance, focus modes and more are on hand for the times when you want to tinker with your shots. And getting to know them all is a good idea, because you won&rsquo;t always get the best shots from the Z2&rsquo;s Superior Auto mode.&nbsp;</p> <p>It&rsquo;s generally very good, switching to its excellent macro or night modes quickly and flawlessly. But at other times, it seems to struggle. Point it into direct sunlight, for instance, and it won&rsquo;t do such a good job with exposure. It doesn&rsquo;t always have the night vision of the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/htc/htc-one-2/review" target="_blank">One (M8)</a> in very low light, either, but then again it&rsquo;s better at snapping faces without the need for the flash indoors - a much more useful talent, in our book.</p> <p><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="281" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/99712217@N05/13779359504/in/set-72157643800388303/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="500"></iframe>&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>Video can be shot in 1080p and 4K and in both instances footage is seriously smooth, even when walking about, thanks to Sony&rsquo;s SteadyShot stabilisation. A warning for those planning to shoot a 4K movie, though: after a couple of minutes the Z2 often gets too hot, flashes up a warning, then abruptly stops shooting - we hope Sony&rsquo;s working on fixing this, as the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-s5/samsung-galaxy-s5/review" target="_blank">Galaxy S5</a> handles the rigours of 4K just fine.&nbsp;</p> <p>All in all, the Z2 does require a bit of work to get great photos and footage, meaning that it&rsquo;s not the most practical phone to go out snapping with: it&rsquo;s a bit unwieldy compared to lighter or curvier phones and the rear camera is right in the top corner of the device. Hello, giant blurry fingerprint.&nbsp;</p> <p>Still, for many it&rsquo;ll be worth the effort. We&rsquo;re yet to pit it against <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/nokia-lumia-1020/review" target="_blank">Nokia&rsquo;s 1020</a> but there&rsquo;s no question the Z2 is one of the best smartphone cameras we&rsquo;ve come across, if you can use it to its full potential.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:</strong> <strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/moto-g/best-cheap-smartphone-you-can-buy/feature">The best cheap smartphones you can buy including the &pound;150 Xperia M2</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="We won&#039;t say no to this 20.7MP camera - and no hideous bump either " alt="We won&#039;t say no to this 20.7MP camera - and no hideous bump either " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/sony-xperia-z2-review-camera.png?1408532390" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Easy to access Xperia camera features " alt="Easy to access Xperia camera features " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/sony-xperia-z2-review-camera-features.png?1408532390" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> A Gallery-worthy design, but your hands might not like it </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>If the HTC One and <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/htc/htc-one-2/review" target="_blank">One (M8)</a> were taken out of the equation, the Z2 would comfortably be the classiest Android phone on the market - a real object of desire. It&rsquo;s so beautifully finished, with smoothly rounded corners, an all-glass back and machined aluminium edges, that we&rsquo;re tempted to install a rotating plinth for it in our living room.</p> <p>Next to the Z1, it fits more screen into a lighter body, and with all the port flaps closed it has the same water resistance rating (IP55/58) as its predecessor, so it&rsquo;s safe from splashes and can even take underwater swimming pool pics. We haven&rsquo;t dunked this unit yet but we&rsquo;ll update the review when we have.</p> <p>However, a gorgeous design isn&rsquo;t the same as a thoughtful design, and it&rsquo;s here that the Z2 falls down. Although it&#39;s a heavy smartphone, it&#39;s not the weight that&#39;s the issue; rather, it&#39;s that the Z2&#39;s toughened glass build would work better scaled down. When you&#39;re dealing with a 5.2in diagonal span of glass, ergonomics really count. Z2 Compact, anyone?</p> <p>Even the massive <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-note-3/samsung-galaxy-note-3/review" target="_blank">Galaxy Note 3</a> can feel easier to manage than the Z2, and our love for the Z2&#39;s brilliant camera and screen have been dampened by practicality problems; just picking it up from a flat desk can be awkward.</p> <p>There&rsquo;s a happy middle ground between form and function, and the Z2 doesn&#39;t quite find it. Put simply, this is a phone you need to pick up before you pre-order. If its shape works for you, you can get back to appreciating everything it does brilliantly.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/htc/htc-one-2/review" target="_blank">HTC One (M8) review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="An early example of Sony&#039;s Blue Period" alt="An early example of Sony&#039;s Blue Period" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/sony-xperia-z2-review-lockscreen.png?1408532390" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Play find the microSD card slot " alt="Play find the microSD card slot " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/sony-xperia-z2-review-power-button.png?1408532390" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="900" title="Two gorgeous designs but we find the HTC more hand-friendly " alt="Two gorgeous designs but we find the HTC more hand-friendly " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/sony-xperia-z-vs-htc-one-m8.png?1408532390" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-4"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> An Android skin that&#039;s (mainly) clutter-free </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Sony&rsquo;s customised Android interface does a much better job at compromising in the right places. It can even run small windowed apps (including widgets) on top of another running app, getting good use out of that spacious 5.2in screen.</p> <p>Sony has also picked up the best gesture-based tricks of its rivals and quietly added them to the Z2. So, raising the phone to your ear answers a call, and tapping the screen wakes the device up. One handy time-saver is better than five half-baked features, and the Z2 knows it.</p> <p>Just one thing: Sony&#39;s now on the slippery bloatware slope that Samsung is finally managing to crawl back up. Unwanted software additions don&rsquo;t take up too much space on the Z2&#39;s interface for now, but there&#39;s danger of it creeping in all over the place. When we swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access Google Now, we&rsquo;re not looking for Sony&#39;s What&rsquo;s New suggestions, already present as a elsewhere as a standalone homescreen widget. (Higher is better in both cases.)</p> <p>As with the Z1, the only worry here is that whenever the Z2&rsquo;s Snapdragon is overworked - shooting 4K video or heavy gaming - the handset heats up and, as we mentioned, with 4K video the Z2 will actually stop shooting if it gets too hot.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:</strong> <strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-s5/samsung-galaxy-s5/review" target="_blank">Samsung Galaxy S5 review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-6"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> A Stamina mode to save the day </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>If there&rsquo;s one thing super-powered smartphones compromise on, it&rsquo;s battery life - if you want the best handset, you usually end up with a microUSB cable next to your pillow. We&rsquo;ve been fans of this Sony-specific feature for a while, as it does a cracking job of conserving juice by powering down the phone&#39;s data connection when the screen&#39;s turned off.</p> <p>If the brightness is cranked up (and you&rsquo;ll need it to be when you&rsquo;re outdoors), battery does suffer. While the S5 is instantly recognisable as a Galaxy, Samsung has tweaked the design by adding a dimpled polycarbonate (still removable) back panel to give your fingers something to adhere to. In that regard it works. This is a big, wide phone but that new texture combines with <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-note-3/samsung-galaxy-note-3/review" target="_blank">Note 3</a>-style metal-look ridges to make this the grippiest Galaxy yet. It&rsquo;s just as light as the S4 (OK, 15g heavier) and is also more solidly built that its predecessor, which was prone to the odd creak.</p> <p>Improving on the S4 isn&rsquo;t enough, though. Next to the impressively engineered <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/android/lg-g2/review" target="_blank">LG G2</a> the S5 looks a generation behind, with wider bezels on the front and a larger overall handprint. The G2 simply has a better screen-to-size ratio.</p> <p>Second, how a phone feels when you grab it 100 times a day is half the battle. The &ldquo;Modern Glam&rdquo; back panel still doesn&rsquo;t look the part of a &pound;600 smartphone. Perhaps it&rsquo;s exactly the sort of styling Samsung&rsquo;s hordes of fans are after, but to our eyes this is a long way from the sophisticated curves of the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/htc/htc-one-2/review" target="_blank">HTC One M8</a>.</p> <p>We&rsquo;re not saying &ldquo;go metal or go home&rdquo; (the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/android/google-nexus-5/review" target="_blank">Nexus 5</a> is a prime example of understated polycarbonate perfection) and ditching the fake stitching of the Note 3 is a good decision, but Samsung needs to think classier.</p> <p>Third, while the S5 feels solid enough, crank up the volume when watching a movie in bed and you can hear the rear speaker vibrating the S5&rsquo;s back panel fairly vigorously. That&rsquo;s not something you&rsquo;d expect from a flagship such as this.</p> <p>In short, we&rsquo;re not enamoured by the S5&rsquo;s aesthetics, but perhaps there are those out there who will be. Besides, Samsung&rsquo;s form has function - IP67 waterproofing. Just make sure the back panel and port covers are properly fitted. No-one wants a soggy battery.</p> <p>UPDATE: Samsung has sent us over a Charcoal Black model and we&#39;re much more taken with it than our original Shimmery White unit. Our design criticisms still stand but this is definitely the model we&#39;d go for - we&#39;re yet to eye up Electric Blue and Copper Gold.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/htc/htc-one-2/review" target="_blank">HTC One (M8) review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="video-wrapper brightcove-player-wrapper"> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="http://admin.brightcove.com/js/BrightcoveExperiences.js"></script> <script src="http://admin.brightcove.com/js/APIModules_all.js"></script> <div class="brightcove-player"> <object id="myExperience-3482514087001" class="BrightcoveExperience"> <param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /> <param name="playerID" value="" /> <param name="playerKey" value="AQ~~,AAAAEgPmGlk~,Fzd-TvXcznw-P3piHaryQBMeIzWITldz" /> <param name="isVid" value="true" /> <param name="isUI" value="true" /> <param name="dynamicStreaming" value="true" /> <param name="@videoPlayer" value="3482514087001" /> <param name="autoStart" value="" /> <param name="htmlFallback" value="true" /> <param name="includeAPI" value="true" /> <param name="templateLoadHandler" value="brightcoveTemplateLoaded" /> <param name="width" value="640px" /> <param name="height" value="360px" /> </object> <!-- This script tag will cause the Brightcove Players defined above it to be created as soon as the line is read by the browser. What you will notice is how bright it is, how easy it is to read outdoors and how vibrant the colours are.</p> <p>And to combat criticism over alien hues, Samsung&rsquo;s adapt display setting automatically switches screen mode depending on what you&rsquo;re doing - Dynamic mode to make home and lockscreens really pop, and Cinema mode for a natural palette for movies. It&rsquo;s the smartphone screen equivalent of having your cake and eating it.</p> <p>We were obviously excited when the (ultimately unfounded) rumours of a 2K screen surfaced, but while that&rsquo;s not what we&rsquo;ve ended up with this is plenty sharp and there are excellent viewing angles. It&rsquo;s not quite the very best - the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/android/lg-g2/review" target="_blank">LG G2</a> offers a larger screen, crisper picture and slightly better contrast in a smaller body. Samsung reckons it&rsquo;s as fast as up to 0.3s; we can&rsquo;t count that quickly, but we do know it&rsquo;s one of the nippiest we&rsquo;ve seen on a phone.</p> <p>The 16MP sensor captures accurate colours, good contrast and masses of detail when used outdoors in good light, so it&rsquo;s a superb ad-hoc tourist cam. Its improved HDR mode is one of the best we&rsquo;ve used, too - it&rsquo;s lightning quick and the results in tricky light are close to magic.</p> <p>But indoors it&rsquo;s only so-so, and in low light it&rsquo;s comfortably beaten by the night vision of the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/htc/htc-one-2/review" target="_blank">HTC One (M8)</a> and the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/android/lg-g2/review" target="_blank">LG G2</a>. Colours stay accurate but images look too grainy to be usable. Zooming in on landscape shots? Yes, go for it (after all, it&#39;s not something you can do very effectively on the 4MP One (M8)). Your mate&rsquo;s face in a dimly lit restaurant? Not so hot.</p> <p>Selective focus - Samsung&rsquo;s version of the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/lytro/review" target="_blank">Lytro</a>-like tech so in vogue right now - offers near focus, far focus and pan focus after you&rsquo;ve taken the shot. The subject closest to you has to be 50cm or nearer and, unlike on the HTC, the mode has to be selected before you start snapping. But even though it&rsquo;s software-based, with no extra sensors, it works fairly well and is a cool feature that&rsquo;s a cut above the slightly gimicky software tricks Samsung has been guilty of in the past.</p> <p><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="280" mozallowfullscreen="" msallowfullscreen="" oallowfullscreen="" src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/99712217@N05/13713898094/in/set-72157643635998415/player/" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="500"></iframe></p> <p>The camera app itself has been simplified, too, with one big boo-boo: Samsung&rsquo;s ditched its night mode altogether. For low light shots Samsung suggests its new Picture Stabilisation mode, but this is hidden as a toggle in the phone&rsquo;s main settings. After Auto, this is probably the most used setting, so having to jump through hoops to get to it is a misstep.</p> <p>As for video, the S5 joins the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-note-3/samsung-galaxy-note-3/review" target="_blank">Note 3</a> in the 4K club - footage is smooth and looks as crisp as the screen you&rsquo;re viewing it on will allow. And this is easily the most user friendly version of Android yet to grace a Galaxy.</p> <p>TouchWiz, as it&#39;s known, has never had many fans. Big features such as running two apps side by side with Multi Window are useful, but there&rsquo;s always been a little too much confusion and clutter to it.</p> <p>On the S5 it&rsquo;s different. It&rsquo;s not quite as painstakingly crafted as <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/ios-7/ios-7/review" target="_blank">iOS</a> yet and we&rsquo;re sure an S5 Google Edition (with vanilla Android KitKat) will sell well. But it is now on the road to brilliance. Tweaked icons look simple and fresh and core apps such as the S Planner calendar have been overhauled to look clean and calming next to their hectic <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/android/samsung-galaxy-s4/review" target="_blank">S4</a> counterparts.</p> <p>Where once we&rsquo;d unbox a smartphone already bloated with extra apps, Samsung downloads and free subscriptions are now tidied away in the the Galaxy Essentials and Galaxy Gifts widgets - it&rsquo;s then up to you which you install and which you ignore.</p> <p>The big addition is My Magazine, a stream of images and links to news that&rsquo;s powered by <a href="https://flipboard.com/" target="_blank">Flipboard</a> and sits to the left of the main homescreen. <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/htc/htc-one-2/review" target="_blank">HTC&rsquo;s BlinkFeed</a> is slightly more useful - it shows specific RSS feeds and calendar appointments - but Samsung&rsquo;s app is an equally lively way to jump into the morning&rsquo;s news. Again, Samsung is learning to be less pushy - My Magazine can be killed in the settings.</p> <p>Using the S5 can still feel overwhelming at times, mind you. The settings menu is somewhat over-stocked with options, to the extent that we gave up scrolling the icons and used the search tool. All the familiar Samsung innovations are here if you want them, including last year&rsquo;s motion gestures (eye tracking, touchless scrolling, etc) neatly tucked away in their own section. It&rsquo;s worth noting that none of these are as useful and intuitive day-to-day as the One (M8)&rsquo;s swipe- and tap-to-unlock gestures.</p> <p>Then there are the new features...</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone review" alt="Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Samsung_Galaxy_S5_smartphone_review_06_0.jpg?1406723802" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Multi Window running Facebook and a video shot with the S5" alt="Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Samsung_Galaxy_S5_review_41_0.jpg?1406723802" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="900" title="Samsung&#039;s app drawer, newly cleaned up " alt="Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Samsung_Galaxy_S5_review_37_0.jpg?1406723802" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-4"> <div class="field-label">Image #4:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_4" width="1200" height="900" title="My Magazine, alone in the courtyard " alt="Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Samsung_Galaxy_S5_review_34_0.jpg?1406723802" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-title"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Samsung Smart Switch: how to ditch iOS the Samsung way </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-body-text"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Body Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Samsung&rsquo;s recognised that one of the biggest obstacles to getting an S5 is the hassle of having to move all of your media and messages from your outgoing handset, particularly if it&rsquo;s an <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/iphone-5s/review" target="_blank">iPhone</a>.</p> <p>Samsung Smart Switch is genius - accessed through the Galaxy Essentials widget, it works with Android and <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/ios-7/ios-7/review" target="_blank">iOS</a>. Not so with the Galaxy S5 - it&rsquo;s not quite as effortlessly fluid as the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/htc/htc-one-2/review" target="_blank">HTC One (M8)</a>, but moving through the UI is as lag-free as we&rsquo;ve seen from a Samsung. Downloads that are already lickety split thanks to MiMO Wi-Fi (ten seconds for a <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotify.mobile.android.ui" target="_blank">Spotify</a> album, less than a minute for big Google Play games - depending on your internet connection, of course) get even quicker with Samsung&rsquo;s Download Booster. At the moment there&rsquo;s about seven billion people in the world, and and over the next few decades that&rsquo;ll grow to around nine billion. There&#39;ll be ecomonic growth, too, which is great news &ndash; new economies are starting to emerge, not just the Asian economies but in the Middle East and Africa, where people are able to buy a car now for the first time. When we look at the number of vehicles being used, there&rsquo;s about one billion vehicles in use today. Beyond personal ownership we&rsquo;ve got things like car sharing, and integrated systems, where Ford would offer a service that&rsquo;s still a journey from A to B, but to conduct that journey it would be a combination of a car and maybe a train or a bus.&quot;</p> <p>Parking in the megacity of the future will be, to a lot of people&#39;s relief, done by electronic valet: &quot;a car that you can just drop off, and it&rsquo;ll go off and park itself using vehicle-to-vehicle communication and vehicle-to-building communication, and you can get much denser parking.&quot;</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" alt="" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/IMG_6336.jpg?1394164972" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> the road to autonomous driving </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Various motor companies have self-driving prototypes on the road today, and Ford&#39;s autonomous research vehicle was on display at MWC, but Paul says the introduction of self-driving cars will be gradual. In fact, it has already begun.&nbsp;</p> <p>&quot; If you look at the new Focus,&nbsp;we&rsquo;ve already got very advanced active safety features: radar sensors, cameras and ultrasonic sensors that provide everything from automated parking that lets the car parallel-park itself with your hands off the steering wheel to active braking that works up to 50km/h. That&rsquo;s this year&rsquo;s car. But we&rsquo;ll progressively be offering more and more automated functions, so in the mid-term, around five years, we&rsquo;ll see things like traffic jam assistance, where it&rsquo;ll take the adaptive cruise control we&rsquo;ve got already and combine it with automated steering and braking, and have the vehicle drive itself in stop-start traffic up to 50-60kmph. That means that in the UK you&rsquo;re looking at something like the M25 in rush hour &ndash;the car will just drive itself,&nbsp;completely hands-free, and you can relax and do some other stuff.&quot; </p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/ford/mwc-2014/ford-s-lidar-packing-self-driving-car-maps-road-360-degrees/news" target="_blank">Ford&#39;s LiDAR car can see in 360&deg;</a></strong></p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/why-you-should-be-pumped-about-self-driving-cars/feature" target="_blank">Google, Drive: why you should be pumped about self-driving cars</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Ford Traffic Jam Assist" alt="Ford Traffic Jam Assist" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Traffic_Jam_Assist_06.jpg?1394164972" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> mind-reading cars </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>And for the fiddly bits where it&#39;s still best to have a human in control, technology can still play a significant part. </p> <p>&quot; One of the areas that really excites me is how we can use wearables to enhance driving,&quot; says Paul. &quot; If you&rsquo;re wearing a band that measures your heart rate, the car can be measuring whether you&rsquo;re stressed or you&rsquo;re tired or distracted, and it can react to keep you safer. We&rsquo;re doing research into cognitive workload, which lets you sense via heart rate or breathing if you&rsquo;re in a stressful situation. So if you think of a stressful driving situation, such as pulling onto a busy roundabout &ndash; if the car knows you need to concentrate, it can block incoming calls and stop traffic alerts, so you have no distractions.&quot;</p> <p>All of which sounds pretty great, but when are we getting the flying cars? When closed, the front glass and the back plate are seamless. The colours are so vibrant that they almost glow &ndash; which makes it awesome to pick it out among the me-too phones plaguing the market now. It does look a bit cheaper than expected though.</p> <p>With the Moto G, Motorola has revisited its Moto X design &ndash; but added a removable back plate. This means users are able to change the colour according to their mood. While it is chunkier than higher-class smartphones in the market, it doesn&rsquo;t feel cheap to hold and feel. It includes a full suite of Google-related apps, such as Gmail and the Play Store.</p> <p>Meanwhile, Nokia had to be content with Android 4.1.2 in the X family. Not only is it running a dated Android version (which is optimised for mid-to-low end devices, such as the X series here), there&#39;s minimal Google support and no Google Play Store &ndash; apps are installed either via Nokia&rsquo;s own app store, or have to be sideloaded into the phone.</p> <p><strong>Winner: </strong>Moto G</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="Nokia X vs Motorola Moto G: the weigh in" alt="Nokia X vs Motorola Moto G: the weigh in" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/colours.jpg?1393982235" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-5"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Verdict </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>It&#39;s clear almost right from the start that the Moto G comes off best in this weigh-in. It doesn&rsquo;t have a great camera but hey &ndash; you can&#39;t have it all.</p> <p>The Nokia X family, however, is special because it&rsquo;s the company&rsquo;s first foray into the Android universe and aimed at emerging countries (nope &ndash; not even the UK will get this phone). Also, it&#39;s a first generation device, and like most of those it has plenty of room for improvement.
