Widely dismissed upon its release (and still today by some critics – Mr Kermode, we’re looking at you) as a lightweight “bit of fun”, a departure after the more outwardly worthy Oscar-netting Fargo, The Big Lebowski is now regarded by film fans as something of a comic gem.
