It seems that Microsoft is planning on introducing a copy and paste functionality to Windows Phone 7 after all.

We were disappointed to hear earlier this week that the feature was going to be booted from Windows Phone 7 in preference for a smart linking feature instead.

An odd feature to drop, especially when WinMo owners long pushed it in the face of iPhone users prior to the 3.0 update.

However, well-known Windows blogger Long Zheng has said that copy and paste will be a feature of the OS, but will be instead rolled out after the launch.

It turns out Microsoft wanted to get the feature on board but didn't think it would be possible without affecting the release schedule.

Writing on his blog, Zheng said: "As it turns out, the development team actually knows exactly how they will be implementing copy & paste in WP7S but did not believe it could be implemented without affecting the release schedule they’ve committed too and therefore will be including it in an update down the road."

Time will tell if this turns out to be true, but it seems odd that a seemingly small feature the company has already integrated in a previous OS would take that long.

Still, we'll be keeping our ears to the ground for more on this and bring you all the news when we get it. In the meantime, let us know whether you'll be buying a WinPho handset at launch below.
