Windows 7 finally topples XP's desktop OS dominance

Microsoft's veteran OS has held a majority in the computing parliament, but its scion has staged a coup

Statistics aren't often fun, but they can be interesting. Take the latest US desktop OS market share figures for instance. Windows 7 hits first place with 38 per cent, ending XP’s long run of being the top dog of the OS world. Vista comes in third with Mac OS X creeping up steadily behind it in fourth. Unsurprising results really, given Microsoft’s global dominance, but we can’t help but wonder if there are any people out there who are still rocking Windows 95, 98 or (shudder) Windows Millennium. You poor, poor souls.
