Could we soon see iPhones sending notifications to Android Wear devices? Well, probably not in an official capacity - but you can watch a developer pull it off above. Mohammad Abu-Garbeyyeh created an app that taps into the Apple Notification Center Service (ANCS), much like a Pebble watch would, to get basic notifications sent over to the Android-powered Moto 360 smartwatch.
Granted, getting a text message notification represents only a very base level of functionality for Android Wear - the watch needs an Android phone for voice search and app compatibility, which may never be possible with iOS unless there’s an official solution. Abu-Garbeyyeh says he might release his .apk for the watch, and that the iPhone needn’t be jailbroken to be compatible.
Google has said it would like to expand Android Wear beyond Android phones at some point, but there are a lot of roadblocks and red tape that line the path between now and a possible future of iOS compatibility. And with the Apple Watch en route, chances are that Apple doesn’t want to invite another competitor into the ecosystem.
