The OnePlus 2 will pack 4GB of RAM

The upcoming affordable smartphone looks set to top many premium flagships when it comes to specs

The OnePlus 2 is just three weeks away, and as we edge closer to that date the company is keeping up its steady barrage of info-bombs. The latest reveal is that the smartphone will sport 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, which pushes it up to the same level as the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro. Upcoming 2015 phones like the LG G Pro 4 and Samsung Galaxy Note 5 are also tipped for 4GB.

If we put together what the OnePlus has revealed about the 2 so far, the upcoming device will be fitted with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 1.8GHz processor optimised for thermal efficiency and battery life, a USB type-C port and what OnePlus claims is the world’s best fingerprint sensor (which we suspect to be Qualcomm’s new Sense ID scanner). In short, it’s looking like a truly impressive flagship smartphone – which, when you consider how much we loved its predecessor, isn’t particularly surprising.

Price-wise, you’ll likely have pay more for the 2 than the One Plus One (which was £230 at launch), as the processor upgrade will increase the production costs of the device. That said, we’re expecting the price to be somewhere in between US$322 and US$450 (stated by CEO Pete Lau) – so nowhere near as expensive as flagship phones from the likes of Apple, Samsung and LG. The device is scheduled to be launched on 27th July (it’ll be 3am on the 28th UK time) with a special VR streaming event.
