Hyundai’s all-electric Ioniq teased in renderings

It’ll be officially unveiled in January before being launched at next year’s Geneva Motor Show

Hyundai is the latest car maker to announce an all-electric vehicle, with the Ioniq being the Korean manufacturer’s first ever foray into non-petrol engine cars.

The Ioniq is set to be officially launched at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show next March, but Hyundai has just released a handful of renderings that give us an early peak at its exterior and interior design.

The exterior image shows a highly aerodynamic shape in both the body and the wheels – all the better to maximise the efficiency of that electric motor, natch.

The cabin, meanwhile, features eye-catching blue lighting trim around many of the features, which include a central information screen. Hyundai says it will be using eco-friendly materials “to convey a futuristic yet warm cabin ambiance that will appeal to a new generation of motorists”.

There will be three main editions of the Ioniq available: a fully electric version; a petrol-electric hybrid; and a plug-in hybrid. Hyundai may be the only major manufacturer offering consumers such a wide choice of low emission versions – an impressive feat given that it’s the company’s first electric vehicle.

The Hyundai Ioniq will be debuted in at a special “world premiere” event in Korea next month, so we’ll get a more comprehensive look at it then.
