Fully Charged: Batgirl stars in Arkham Knight DLC, and Apple Watch vs. a sledge hammer

Begin the week by catching up on the top news you might’ve missed this weekend

Batman: Arkham Knight DLC

Arkham Knight DLC features Batgirl

Last week, the Internet briefly caught fire over the announcement that the upcoming and highly anticipated Batman: Arkham Knight would have an optional season pass for downloadable content - which wasn’t immediately revealed. Cue angry fan response, as expected.

But now we’re getting details of what’s coming, and it all sounds pretty promising. Leading the pack is Batgirl: A Matter of Family, a prequel story-centric expansion that lets you play as Batgirl for the first time. You’ll also find missions starring Batman and other allies, as well as various Batmobiles from Batman’s 75-year history in a racing mode, additional challenge maps, and character skins.

It’ll all release within the six-month period following Arkham Knight’s release on 23 June, and more details will come as the main game approaches next month.

Apple Watch vs. a sledge hammer

A hot new gadget is out, which means a bevy of entrepreneurial YouTube channel owners are doing their best to destroy it in increasingly violent and entertaining ways. FullMag is leading the charge on the Apple Watch: this particular clip sees the wearable doused in liquid nitrogen before smashed to bits with a sledge hammer.

If you have the stomach for gadget destruction porn and want to see more utterly wasteful videos like this, the FullMag channel also has the Watch being shot with a .50 cal bullet, or detonated in a hydrogen explosion.

Standalone Star Wars movie loses director

Josh Trank

Star Wars: Rogue One, the first so-called Anthology standalone film, is well on track for release in December 2016 with Godzilla reboot director Gareth Edwards helming production. However, the next standalone flick, already announced last year, has lost its own director.

Josh Trank, whose Fantastic Four reboot hits cinemas this summer, has made “a personal decision” to leave the film in favor of original projects, he said in a note on the official Star Wars website. However, a report by the Hollywood Reporter cites insiders who claim that he was “erratic” and difficult to work with on Fantastic Four, which shares producer Simon Kinberg with the Star Wars film.

“If you've got someone who can't answer questions or who isn't sure or is in hiding, that's not good,” says an insider about Trank’s Fantastic Four work. And even a Fox spokesperson admits, “There were definitely some bumps in the road.” No word yet on a replacement for Trank on the next Star Wars film, but it’s seemed like Disney and Lucasfilm have been eager to hire young, exciting talent to oversee these side stories.
