Korg Zero 4 DJ Mixer review

The Zero 4 is a storming four-channel DJ-ing tool – and the most strokeable mixer ever made

The Zero 4 is a DJ mixer that you will love, cherish and honour. It’s a hefty chunk of metal, with a glossy, black, brushed finish on top and heat sink-style grooves on the side panels. It is without doubt the most touchable, strokeable DJ mixer ever made, with a gorgeous tactile quality to every control.

A wealth of effects

Turn it on and it lights up like a fruit machine before settling down to a more subtle backlit state. You get four channels, each with its own independent effects section with eight effects and four parameter control knobs.

These are fantastic effects that you’ll want to use, including phasers, flangers, filters and delays. As well as wet/dry knobs, there’s a three-way sprung switch on each channel can be used to cut the effect in or out, or mute the entire channel – great for quick drop-outs.

Connections galore

Another luxury is the LED VU meter next to each channel fader. An additional effects section is shared between the master mix and the sampler section, where you’ll find controls for looping clips and a tap-tempo button for syncing loops and delays.

Round the back you get three sets of analogue inputs on each channel, balanced XLR mix outputs, S/PDIF output, two analogue stereo outs, two FireWire connections and MIDI in and out. Those non-audio connections allow it to function as far more than a pure audio mixer, integrating seamlessly with Traktor and Ableton Live.

The Zero 4 is a fabulous mixer, offering everything the modern DJ could want without over complicating things.
