The world’s best camera phone? That’s what Gionee’s saying about the Elife E8

A 24MP camera with OIS and Phase-detect AF gets the E8 a thumbs-up from a photography legend

Gionee had a surprise guest on stage at the Elife E8 smartphone launch - the legendary Raghu Rai.

So it’s no surprise that they’re claiming their new flagship is the ‘world’s best camera’ phone. Since Gionee’s especially proud of the photography abilities of the Elife E8, let’s get that out of the way first - their new flagship gets a 24MP camera with OIS and Phase-detect Auto Focus (commonly found in DSLRs, PDAF should, in theory at least, make the E8 feel quite nippy while focusing). The E8’s camera also has a 120MP ‘Ultrapixel’ mode, which combines multiple frames to create a higher-resolution image. Apart from this, Gionee also points to the 4K video recording, dedicated shutter button, the ‘Real HDR’ mode, Magic Focus 2.0 and the Image+ platform (which makes it possible to add new features via software updates) as selling points for avid shutterbugs. Selfies, you ask? (Philistine, we say!) - An 8 MP front camera ought to keep you satisfied…

But it’s a phone, not a camera, so there’s got to be more to the E8. Well, it’s a 6in phablet, with a QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) AMOLED display that gives you a pixel density of 491ppi. Powering this massive display is a Mediatek Helio X10 processor, combined with 3GB RAM, while a 3520mAh battery provides the juice. Apart from this, the Elife E8 comes with a fingerprint scanner, NFC and a meaty 64GB of onboard storage (and yup, it’s expandable). All this runs Gionee’s Amigo 3.1 OS, which is based on Android Lollipop 5.1. The Gionee Elife E8 will be sold online exclusively via Snapdeal, at a list price of ₹34,999.
