New gear for your ear

The month of June saw five new pieces of gear for your ear, and they are here:

1. MEE Audio M9B (₹2,999)

Tired of untangling wires every time you want to get your in-ears on? Simply not quick enough to get them on before someone begins that unwanted conversation? Go wireless with MEE’s Audio M9B. Bluetooth 4.0 and advanced 9mm drivers provide great sound and wireless convenience with phones, tablets and other Bluetooth devices.

The aluminium earpieces are compact and light and, with four sets of eartips in the pack, offer a comfortable fit. The built-in remote provides seamless control of phone calls, volume and music playback while the integrated microphone and Bluetooth Multipoint functionality let you manage audio and calls from up to two devices simultaneously.

2. Portronics MUFFS – XT (₹1,999)

Want to go completely and totally wire-free? Then it’s these Portronics muffs you’ll want. These on-ear Bluetooth headphones have a built-in microphone and ear-pad mounted controls. The Muffs-XT claim to give you 12+ hours of non-stop music on a single charge, thanks to low-power BLE Bluetooth 4.1, which also has less interference with 4G signals than older versions.

That doesn’t mean they’re not compatible with lower Bluetooth smartphones, tabs or laptops – they’ll pair with them all. And if you do intend to do a 12+ hour stretch of listening, the PU-leather foam ear-pads, 40mm drivers and 135gm weight will make sure you don’t end up with steaming ears the colour of a fire engine.

3. Intex Desire BT (₹1,800)

The Desire BTs are quite good-looking and, if you’re gaga over radio, you’ll be happy to know that there’s digital FM playability on board. Notice that well-designed panel on the ear cup? Yes, plenty of buttons for you to play your music as well as answer calls via Bluetooth. Music can also be accessed via TF or AUX, and it has a built-in rechargeable battery, so you’ll never fall short. That’s quite a few features for that price tag.

4. Skullcandy Grind Wireless (₹6,499)

If that price tag hasn’t scared you off, then these are the ones you’ll want if you’re looking for good sound. The original Grind was quite popular for its premium audio experience delivered through minimalist industrial design. The Grind Wireless does the same, via Bluetooth. An integrated amplifier component provides a higher power rating and less distortion, while the high-end drivers enable greater dynamic range. There’s controls on the right ear cup and it has a 12-hour battery life as well as funky colour options.

5. Brainwavz Audio S1 (₹3,199)

Specifically designed for iOS products, the no-nonsense Brainwavz S1 uses dynamic driver speakers housed in an all-metal shell. There’s an audio precision silicon microphone and a three-button control, so you can look as menacing and serious as an FBI agent on the prowl, whispering crucial secrets to your peers. Of course, you may actually be lip-syncing to Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai, but no one needs to know that.
