Freeing up memory for memories

It’s a predicament all of us have faced at some point. To delete or not to, in order to free up space on your device. SanDisk seems to have come up with a cure.

According to a survey commissioned by SanDisk, 50% of smartphone users regularly face storage depletion issues, making them take harsh decisions on the go. The newly updated range of SanDisk storage solutions aims to alleviate storage issues by either extending the storage or helping you manage it better.

More power, more speed

First up are the industry standard MicroSD cards that have been upgraded with the world’s fastest transfer speed. The new card, available in 64GB and 128GB capacities delivers transfer speeds of up to 275MB/sec, making it ideally suited to offload 4K video from the UHS-II card onto a host machine. It also comes with a USB 3.0 card reader for added convenience and is available now for ₹9990 and ₹18,990 for the 64GB and 128GB variants respectively.

You're just my type

As a first in segment, SanDisk has also updated their 128GB USB Type-C flash drive that now delivers transfer speeds of up to 150MB/sec, making it their fastest and highest-capacity Type-C offering. Featuring a slim, retractable design, it is also compatible with the SanDisk Memory Zone app for Android that will auto-launch upon insertion of the device for easy file management. Available in four different variants from 16GB to 128GB, the SanDisk Ultra USB Type-C Flash Drive will cost you between ₹1290 to ₹4290.

More space, more lazy

The more conventional Dual Drive OTG now gets a speed bump too with USB 3.0 and the 128GB version now available on Flipkart for ₹3390. A new category of product introduced last year was the Connect Wireless Stick and now that too gets a capacity bump, with a 200GB version out this year for ₹9990. It’s already won top honours at the CES2016 and is actually quite an innovative flash drive which enables effortless file sharing between devices. It has been updated to support sharing content on large screen displays via AirPlay or Chromecast. Through the Connect app available on all app stores, you can even save Live Photos taken from an iPhone 6S/6S Plus.

iOS compatible

But the highlight of SanDisk’s new range for 2016 has to be the Flash Drive for iPhone/iPad. An all-new form factor over the previous years iXpand Flash Drive, the 2016 model now features a much slimmer body and a USB 3.0 connector. The Lightning connector on one end and a USB connector on the other still remain but the body is now curved and designed especially keeping in mind that customers might use protective cases for their iPhones. It can now also be used as a key-ring, should you feel generous at the valet service.

Thanks to the omission of the battery from the earlier generation device, the new size doesn’t block neighbouring USB ports on the host device and also comes with a completely redesigned partnering app. It now allows you to shoot videos directly on to the drive itself, saving the time to transfer from phone to Flash Drive. Much more intuitive and easier to use, the new UI has a host of new features that should make backing up and transferring of data as easy as iOS users expect it to be of an Apple-certified product. To be available only on Amazon for the first month, the Flash Drive will come in capacities ranging from 16GB to 128GB at a price of ₹3990 to ₹9990.
