MWC 2012 - HTC One X hands on review

We get up close and personal with HTC's flagship quad-core powerhouse

HTC One X – overview

The HTC One X packs in an impressive 1.5Ghz Tegra 3 quad-core processor, matching and nullifying the Huawei Ascend D Quad's world's fastest smartphone title. Its 4.7in 720p HD screen is a joy to behold in the flesh, with bright vivid colours making  the HTC Sense 4-skinned Ice Cream Sandwich OS look very inviting indeed.

HTC One X – design and build

The HTC One X's 9.3mm thin polycarbonate unibody puts us in mind of the Nokia Lumia 800 in that it feels solid and sturdy as well as having a minimalistic white design that even the Apple faithful would pine for.

The HTC One X's high-gloss sides meld in to a soft-touch back that's pleasant to hold and HTC's commitment to detail is nicely symbolised in the precise micro-drilled speaker holes  on its rear.

HTC One X – camera

HTC has made a huge commitment to camera quality in all of its One series handsets and the HTC One X's 8MP snapper held up to the hype, with a fast boot and quick-shooting photos that were more than acceptable given the lighting conditions. It was nice to see the video and camera shutter buttons side by side and the picture-in-video function worked without a hitch.

HTC One X – first impressions

From its vibrant large gorilla glass screen (which is curved to avoid face-down contact), solid build quality, and super-fast camera, HTC has created a powerful iPhone rival that looks to have earned its flagship status.
