HTC reveals Desire 601 and 300 smartphones, plus wireless BoomBass sub

HTC outs two handsets along with a portable bass cube to add a little more oomph to the One's speakers

HTC has revealed the Desire 601 and 300 – two budget handsets aimed at bringing a little bit of the original One magic to your pockets without the premium price tag.

A mini wireless subwoofer called the HTC BoomBass also joins the new handsets, aiming to add some extra bass to the HTC One's dual front-facing speakers.

The Desire 601 is a mid-range handset which HTC tells us brings many of the One's desirable traits to the table. This includes Sense 5.0 (with HTC BlinkFeed), Zoe video highlights and dual front-facing BoomSound speakers.

There's no 4MP Ultrapixel camera mind, with a standard 5MP snapper taking care of shots instead.

A 4.5in qHD screen (that's 960x540 pixels) graces the front, and it'll arrive packing 4G for super-fast browsing on the go.

A 1.4Ghz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 1GB of RAM round off the spec sheet and it'll be available from September for a currently undisclosed price.

The Desire 300 has a smaller non-HD 4.3in WVGA screen and a 5MP camera along with a 1GHz dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM, and will be available from October at an entry-level price.

HTC BoomBass

The HTC BoomBass is a portable Bluetooth cube which houses a miniature subwoofer to add some necessary low-end bass to the HTC One's loud dual front-facing speakers.

It has NFC for easy pairing and the bottom portion slides out halfway allowing you to use it as a stand for the HTC One.

Its rechargeable 1,200mAh battery promises up to nine hours of music playback and it will officially be available in red and grey from October.
