Hennessey Venom GT is the world’s fastest road car

With a 0-300km/h time of only 13.63 seconds, this is the quickest accelerating road car on the planet

If you love roller coasters, but can’t stand the queue, then the road-legal Hennessey Venom GT hypercar is your fast-track to thrills. It might be a little more pricey than a trip to Alton Towers, at US$1.2million (£760,000), but with 0-300km/h (186.4mph) time of just 13.63 seconds that money gets you the Guinness World Records’ fastest car on earth. That puts it ahead of the prvious title holder, the Koenigsegg Agera, which managed 14.53 seconds.

The Lotus Elise based 7L V8 stomach-defiler weighs just 1244kg and can – unofficially, as Guinness World Records only recognises km/h – do 0-200mph in just 14.51 seconds thanks to Hennessey Performance tuning. That makes it over 3 seconds quicker than the Koenigsegg Agera R that previously held the unofficial record. What about the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport you ask? That took a sluggish 22 seconds to hit 200mph.

Sadly you may have to hang onto that Alton Towers annual pass as there will only be 29 of these eye-watering machines made this year, with a third sold already. And if you can afford one, you’ll have to shell out an extra US$28,000 (£18,000) for right hand drive – although at those speeds it’s probably hard to tell where the road is, let alone which side you’re on.
