Gift Guide – satnav

Give the gift of stress-free car – or bike – journeys this Christmas with our top satnavs

TomTom GO LIVE 1005

£250, tomtom.com

Sitting pretty at the head of this month's Sat-nav Top Ten is this 5in screened wonder. It comes with a new route calculation method, brilliant graphics and a windscreen mount to wax lyrical about. And did we mention the year's free Live and HD Traffic services that come with it?

CoPilot Live for iPhone/ Android/ Windows Phone 7

£20, copilotlive.com

Slightly more budget friendly is CoPilot Live – our pick of the satnav slaying GPS apps. You'll have to dig a little deeper for traffic info (£10 a year) or splash out on the new CoPilot Live Premium HD app for options like dragging routes to preferred roads and real-time traffic updates. Difficult to wrap up an app and leave it under the tree, though.

Garmin nulink! 2390

£190, garmin.com

Drivers with a god complex, this is the satnav for you. It may be pricey but the nulink! 2390 lets you see images from traffic cameras so you'll never bump into a traffic jam without knowing about it again. Garmin's nuvi 1690 is a good alternative with bags of live services at a slightly lower price.

Mio V735 TV

£120, mio.com

This good-looking sat-nav has a 7in screen, design agency-created mapping and a secret weapon in the form of a digital Freeview tuner. Not the function we first look for in a sat-nav but still weirdly tempting – we're predicting rows of cars pulled over on motorways whenever the footie goes into extra time.

Garmin Edge 800

£270, garmin.com

A waterproof sat nav for bicycles, the Garmin Edge 800 impressed us with its turn-by-turn navigation, clear 2.4in touchscreen, compact size and recent price-drop. This is the nav gadget your two-wheeler's been crying out for.
