Samsung Galaxy Tab specs leak

A firmware update released for the incoming, super-sized Galaxy S has apparently thrown some light on its specs. And the iPad has cause for concern…

With its grand unveiling at IFA just three weeks away, Samsung has released a firmware upgrade for the Galaxy Tab Android tablet that apparently reveals some of its key specs.

According to the leak the Tab's 7in screen will be 480x800 pixels. That's inferior to the iPad's 1024x768 resolution, but it's likely to be of the 'super AMOLED' variety that looks so impressive on the Galaxy S.

Playing web-based videos like the Mini Cannon on the Tab shouldn't be a problem thanks to the inclusion of Flash support, though its 1Ghz ARM11 CPU will have to be on hot form to cope with this processor intensive task.

Another interesting inclusion is 'Swype' text input. This software – which lets you type by tracing out words on the keyboard rather than jabbing the screen – works brilliantly on the Galaxy S, and could be an ideal way to fire off emails on the Tab's 7in screen.

Elsewhere there'll apparently be a 3MP camera, GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. All pretty impressive, though there's no confirmation yet on whether it's enough to pass Google's 'Compatibility Test Suite' for access to Android Market and its apps.

Luckily, we'll be reporting live from IFA (3rd-8th September) so look out for our official report and a hands-on then.
