MWC 2012 – Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet goes official

Just as we suspected, Samsung’s Galaxy Note has just got itself some 10in company at Mobile World Congress

Samsung’s plans to unveil a Galaxy Note 10.1 at MWC 2012 came to light a couple of weeks ago. As if to prove that hearsay and rumourmongering can come to some good, that same rumour has become fact in the shape of the now officially launched Galaxy Note 10.1.

That means Sammy’s existing 5.3in Note has got some serious company, though as we suspected the 10 incher’s been stripped of the call-making abilities of the Samsung Galaxy Note we reviewed back in November (see link above).

Fear not, though. The Galaxy Note 10.1 will be bringing the S Pen to a more recognisable tablet format, and it’s bringing the latest version of Android – 4.0, or Ice Cream Sandwich – along for the ride.

To blast that sticky goodness through its PCB we’ll find a 1.4GHz dual-core processor on board and Samsung’s also tricked out the Galaxy Note 10.1 with a 3MP rear-facing and 2MP front-facing camera.

It should give management types pause for thought in choosing a jotting tablet for meetings, plus Samsung’s pushing it as a serious educational tool, perhaps in response to Apple’s iBooks 2 announcement.

Retroists will love the return of the stylus to tableteering, but we’ll be back with a more considered view when we go hands-on with the Galaxy Note 10.1 later ahead of our full review. Stay tuned for all that and more live coverage from MWC 2012.
