From the moment Nikko's R2-D2 beeped his way into Stuff Towers last year, we were desperate to include him in our 2007 Cool List. Alas, production delays meant he missed out on a coveted slot – but now, this very day, the little fella's finally shipping out across the world.

The collector's item (only 4,000 numbered units will be made) is a DVD and CD spinner with built-in projector, 20W speakers and an iPod dock, all housed in a 2ft tall R2-D2 replica.

A giant-sized remote, shaped like the Millennium Falcon, controls all the gear on board, plus tiny motors strapped to R2's 'feet' so you can steer him into position.

Sadly Nikko hasn't mastered the art of 3D projection, but R2 will cast an 80in picture on any nearby wall. The resolution and brightness has had a boost since we last saw it, now managing a more respectable 1,924x768 and 1500 lumens – perfect for a Star Wars box set or spot of Lego Star Wars on the Wii.

Pre-orders are now being taken. If we could just get hold of a C-3PO to serve drinks, we'd be all set.
