This inkjet produces excellent A3 photo prints, but can it reproduce the same form with normal documents?

If standard snapshots or even A4 prints don't cut it for you, then it’s time to step up to this behemoth from Epson, which issues mammoth A3 borderless photo prints.

Give it time

Not surprisingly, you need to give the 1400 a lot of desk space and time to do it thing – well over ten minutes per print. The results are worth it, though: when used with proper photo paper you get some spectacular images ready for the framing.

You don't have to use A3 all the time, either. Paper size goes all the way down to a weeny 6x4 so you can still produce traditionally-sized photo prints, and you can also use it to print onto suitable CDs and DVDs if the fancy takes you.

Use your PC

There's even a PictBridge socket so you can print straight from the camera, but with no preview screen it'll be an expensive business if the image turns out to be a dud. Better to rely on your computer to perfect each shot before hitting ‘print’;

it's not as if you're going to be moving something so huge away from your desk anyway.

Unfortunately, its prowess at photos doesn't extend to the printed word. When you swap out the photo paper for normal stuff, you've still got to wait an age for text to print and then it's noticeably indistinct. It's a top accessory for your digital photography habit, but it's not something that you'd want to rely on for office work.

A great way to show off your digital photos, but keep another printer for everything else
