The 5in Android-powered Dell Streak proved a bit of a gadget conundrum: too big to be a smartphone, too small to be a tablet. Thankfully, there’s no confusion about the next installment. With its 7in display the new Dell Streak 7 sits firmly in the tablet camp and has the Samsung Galaxy Tab and BlackBerry PlayBook in its crosshairs.
Initially running off Android Froyo 2.2, we’re told the Streak 7 will be given a Honeycomb 3.0 upgrade soon after launch while its new Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor will ramp up overall performance. Unsurprisingly the phone call functionality of the original Streak has been nixed.
Gadgeteers over the pond will be the first to get their hands on the Dell Streak 7 as it will work off T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network. But don’t despair because a 3G version is on the cards, although right now there’s no news of a UK release date. Dell also wheeled out a 10in prototype tablet at its CES press conference, hinting it will be aimed at business types.
