What to do with your outdated notebooks? Put together a rocking drum circle, of course! German-born sound artist Trimpin dusted off six of his expired portable computer to create 'Laptopercussion Sextet' for the Bumbershoot music festival in Seattle this weekend.

Each of the computers had two electro-mechanical drumsticks that beat out rhythms on clapped-out touchpads and plastic cases. A quarter set the ensemble off, belting out MIDI-generated percussive sequences.

I counted two old clamshell-style iBooks, an HP, twos Dells (I think) and an ancient portable that didn't even have a screen. That's how to recycle.
