Nikon D5100 finally official

The new Nikon D5100 SLR can be snapped up from 21 April

The latest Nikon SLR to be unveiled is, unsurprisingly, the progressively-named D5100 whose box was spotted weeks ago.

This is the highly anticipated replacement for the Nikon D5000 but takes plenty of influence from the D7000. There's a DX-format 16.2 megapixel CMOS sensor backed up by the EXPEED 2 processing engine, and it can shoot full 1080p video at up to 30fps that can be framed using Live View on the vari-angle LCD

All that translates to a Nikon that could compete for video quality with the Canon EOS 60D and costs just £670 for the body, or £780 with the 18-55VR lens kit. Get your hands on one from April 21.
