Video editing used to be the preserve of latte-fuelled Tarquins in turtle neck jumpers. But a combination of processing power and smart software has put Tarquin out of much of his job, and Cyberlink is trying to finish him off with its new PowerDirector 11 Ultimate suite.
The editing software package – which includes PowerDirector, AudioDirector, ColorDirector and PhotoDirector – aims to undercut established professional offerings from Adobe and Avid with a sub-US$300 price tag and amateur-friendly shortcuts.
Skills include automatic video analysis that can track zoom, movement and stablilty, contextually-aware editing in video and photo tools, basic video colour grading and visual audio editing for easy noise removal.
The components of the suite will be available separately from US$100, or US$300 collectively. They’ll also be bundled with some hardware from Cyberlink’s partners. PhotoDirector is Mac compatible, but the remainder of the suite is Windows only. See you later, Tarquin.
