If you've got £30 and a spare HDMI port, you can wirelessly display any Chrome browser window on your telly, or boink an HD video from iPlayer, Netflix, YouTube and others to the big screen with one press of the in-app Cast button.

Chromecast works with pretty much anything - including Apple devices, Windows, Mac and Linux laptops and of course Chromebooks and Android devices - and is a piece of cake to set up. It's currently a little low on Cast-enabled apps, but with the newly rebuilt iPlayer joining Netflix and others such as RealPlayer Cloud and Red Bull TV, it could soon be the only brain your TV needs.
It's not without competition, though - other Smart TV sticks entering the fray include Roku's £50 Streaming Stick, which will be available from late April, and a rumoured game-streaming stick (with gamepad) from Amazon.
