Rumour Mill – Chrome OS laptops slated for November

Is the big G ready to ship its OS on mainstream hardware?

Google’s Chrome OS has been gestating for a while, and now it could be coming to a Christmas stocking near you.

Rumours being bandied about by DigiTimes suggest we’ll see the first “smartbooks” running the OS this month, November 2010, including a Google-branded laptop (a PC version of the Nexus One, if you like).

The site reckons these will be limited runs as manufacturers test the water ahead of a bigger second push. And yet there’s no mention of tablets, which we think could be the ideal home of Chrome OS.

Well, nothing to do now but wait for the denial, leak, invite and announcement. Or just denial and silence. But we’re hoping for the former.
