The unfortunate &#39;K&#39; part refers to the Kinetic Energy Recovery System that helps the latest model achieve warp speeds.</p> <p><strong>Just how fast is this thing?</strong><br />The &#39;standard&#39; LaFerrari pumps out a mind-altering 938bhp&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;but the FXXK squeezes even more power from the ferocious 6.3-litre V12 engine, so it now produces 848bhp, while an electric motor chips in an additional 187bhp. We know which one we&#39;d rather have.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Toyota Mirai" alt="Toyota&#039;s fuel cell vehicles hits roads next year" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/2016_Toyota_Fuel_Cell_Vehicle_041.jpg?1417139620" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1202" height="900" title="Toyota Mirai" alt="On-board gadgets show nearest hydrogen stations... not near at all" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/2016_Toyota_Fuel_Cell_Vehicle_011.jpg?1417139620" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1201" height="900" title="Toyota Mirai" alt="Fuel cell technology: not quite as alluring as a V8" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/2016_Toyota_Fuel_Cell_Vehicle_009.jpg?1417139620" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>These potential hurdles haven&#39;t stopped Audi from pushing on with its A7 h-tron model, which prods the boundaries of long-range, zero emissions motoring.</p> <p>The sleek saloon features four hydrogen tanks, each storing around 5kg of the gas, as well as a large lithium-ion battery to add a much needed performance boost. Not so in the Prologue concept, as the entire dashboard is fashioned from another OLED display, meaning occupants can enjoy messing with the sat nav system or selecting music from a number of online streaming services.</p> <p>Capping off the eye-popping display offensive is a fourth and final flexible touch screen that is used for climate control and hand written infotainment inputs. When the 4.0-litre TFSI engine is fired up &ndash;&nbsp;it develops a staggering 587bhp, by the way &ndash;&nbsp;the small bendable display stands up from its housing and slides towards the driver.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1193" height="898" title="Touch screens galore! Seating position, climate control and even performance settings will automatically be activated simply by having a mobile in your pocket.</p> <p>Once you&#39;re settled into the hot seat, you can then slide your mobile into the specially created NFC-equipped charging tray and it will automatically sync emails, messages and music, which can be blasted out of a new &#39;sound spoiler&#39; that extends from the rear parcel shelf.</p> <p>It&#39;s unlikely that we&#39;ll ever see the Prologue concept on roads anytime soon, but we can expect to see elements of both the styling and cutting-edge tech filter down into production models in the coming years. That&#39;s probably a good thing, because the sheer weight of intriguing on-board tech would see most prospective owners stuck on the driveway.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/audi/i-was-driven-new-audi-tts-inside-samsung-gear-vr/feature" target="_blank">I was driven in an Audi TTS&hellip; inside a Samsung Gear VR</a></strong></p> <p><iframe frameborder="0" height="180" src="http://pages.haymarket.com/stuff_signup/enews_embed" width="300"></iframe></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Expect the sharp exterior design to feature on upcoming Audi models" alt="Audi Prologue concept" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/L140066.jpg?1416875512" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> http://www.stuff.tv/audi/audi-prologue-concept-previews-high-tech-cockpit-future/news#comments Audi Cars Mon, 24 Nov 2014 17:33:17 +0000 Leon Poultney 1453846 at http://www.stuff.tv Mercedes-AMG GT http://www.stuff.tv/amg-gt/mercedes-amg-gt/review <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> The Mercedes AMG-GT is a £100k sports car monster - and it&#039;s got the Porsche 911 in its sights </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-enable-hero"> <div class="field-label">Enable hero:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Enable full width image </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="5184" height="3456" title="A pretty car in a pretty place" alt="Mercedes-AMG GT" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/Mercedes-AMG-GT-San-Francisco.jpg?1416501368" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/users/leonpoultney" title="View user profile.">Leon Poultney</a> </div> </div> </div> <p>Many challengers have attempted to topple the awesome Porsche 911 from its sports car perch, but very few have succeeded.</p> <p>Audi made headway with the R8, Jaguar recently stirred things up with the F-Type and Aston Martin continues to tempt buyers from the wings. And so it&#39;s been put into hibernation. The ESA says that its main mission - which included taking surface samples and many stunning photos - is complete, and that &ldquo;the whole team is delighted,&rdquo; claims Stephan Ulamec, lander manager at DLC German Aerospace Agency.</p> <p>And this isn&rsquo;t the end of Philae or the Rosetta orbiter that got it to the comet. Philae could potentially be awoken down the line should sunlight conditions improve, but in the meantime, the Rosetta continues orbiting the comet, collecting info on the changing conditions in the months to come that&rsquo;ll help scientists better understand the nature of comets.</p> <p>[Source: <a href="http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Space_Science/Rosetta/Pioneering_Philae_completes_main_mission_before_hibernation">ESA</a>]</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/playstation-vita/fully-charged-spacecraft-lands-comet-samsung-s-gold-covered-curved-tv-and-convertin">Fully Charged: Spacecraft lands on comet, Samsung&rsquo;s gold-covered curved TV, and converting a PlayStation TV into a handheld</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Original Batmobile replica up for sale </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>What you&rsquo;re looking at is the first officially used Batmobile reproduction: completed in 1963 by a fan, the 1956 Oldsmobile 88 was then licensed by DC Comics and used for promotional events before the Batman live-action TV series generated an iconic Batmobile of its own.</p> <p>This Batmobile sat abandoned in a field for decades, but was recently found and restored, and next month it&rsquo;ll be on the auction block in California via Heritage Auctions with a starting bid of US$90,000 (about &pound;57,200). Faster than the i8, in fact. And this is immediate power. My i8 had the Harman/Kardon speaker upgrade, allowing me to wallow in a big bath of music while the motorway did its thing outside.&nbsp;</p> <p class="p3"><strong>First place, naturally</strong><br />It was to be expected that the i8 got to Whitstable comfortably ahead of the others, but as I glimpsed the east coast it had one more surprise for me: in the gullwing doors there&rsquo;s a gently glowing strip of blue that only becomes noticeable when it gets dark, underlining the fighter-jet feel of the cockpit. It&rsquo;s just an LED strip, but it sums up what&rsquo;s brilliant about this BMW: it&rsquo;s a concept car that has, for once, actually been built with its mad design flourishes, spaceship lights, science-fiction powertrain and carbon-fibre everything.</p> <p class="p3">It&rsquo;s a supercar that uses as much petrol as a small hatchback (much less if you drive carefully), but the best thing about it is its lack of compromise. Someone had a bold, exciting idea for how it should look and what it should do, and BMW made that idea real. That doesn&rsquo;t happen often.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="4928" height="3280" title="Even the lights are sexy" alt="Best electric cars test - BMW i8, Volkswagen XL1, Tesla Model S reviewed" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/_JL43916.JPG?1415989604" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-title"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Stuff Says ✭✭✭✭✭ </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-body-text"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Body Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>It&rsquo;s the freaking Batmobile. That&rsquo;s some way off the claimed figure but we spent most of the journey driving it like any other car. With a few new habits we reckon we&rsquo;d have it comfortably over 200mpg.</p> <p>Just add a couple more seats and this would be the ultimate green machine.</p> <p><em>Photography by <a href="http://www.jameslipman.com/">James Lipman</a></em></p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/hot-stuff" target="_blank">All the hottest stuff, on one scorching page</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="7309" height="4912" title="Looking good" alt="Best electric cars test - BMW i8, Volkswagen XL1, Tesla Model S reviewed" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/JL8_4807.jpg?1415989604" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="3280" height="4928" title="From the future" alt="The lean, the mean &amp; It is designed to act as a giant solar panel that creates energy to aid the methane and hydrogen synthesis process, thus eking out more miles from your hydrogen tank. </p> <p>Even the suspension system is in on the act, with the flow of hydraulic fluid in the springs and dampers driving a generator that creates electricity to top up the batteries. </p> <p>The&nbsp;G-Code is&nbsp;equally experimental inside, too. A centre console with integrated smart device docking station connects the car to the digital world, while its shell-like seats are kitted out with full 3D body scanners that constantly monitor passenger&#39;s vitals. Even the steering wheel is wacky - it folds out like a butterfly when the G-Code is started and sports a built-in head up display that can be programmed to show a multitude of vehicle information.</p> <p>Mercedes&#39; vision of warp drive might still be light years away but it&#39;s a good hint at what a small compact crossover from the German marque might look like... on the outside at least.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/christmas-gift-guide-every-brilliant-gift-so-far/feature" target="_blank">Christmas Gift Guide 2014: 50 brilliant present ideas</a></strong></p> <p><iframe frameborder="0" height="180" src="http://pages.haymarket.com/stuff_signup/enews_embed" width="300"></iframe></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1216" height="900" title="Mercedes-Benz G-Code concept " alt="Butterfly steering wheel as standard" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/14C1293_062.jpg?1415534581" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/mercedes-benz/madcap-new-merc-embodies-every-star-trek-fans-vehicular-fantasy/news" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.stuff.tv/mercedes-benz/madcap-new-merc-embodies-every-star-trek-fans-vehicular-fantasy/news#comments Cars Mercedes-Benz Fri, 07 Nov 2014 17:18:49 +0000 Leon Poultney 1452412 at http://www.stuff.tv
