Hi-def is de rigueur now; we're all about high-speed now. The Canon IXUS 300 HS is a tasty compact capable of capturing 240 frames per second for super-slow-motion video.

At full 10MP resolution, the burst mode reaches an impressive 3.7 shots per second, while 8.4 shots per second is possible when you pedal back to 2.5MP.

In addition to the super-slo-mo video and super-fast continuous shooting, there's hi-def vid of course. For better low-light performance, the 3.8x lens has a maximum f2.0 aperture and sensitivity can be ramped up to ISO 3200 (or 6400 at 2.5MP).

And the best news? It comes in red. Or silver, black or white. Red is exclusive to John Lewis, while white is exclusive to Jessops.

If it's anywhere near as good as the recent Canon PowerShot S90 it'll be a stormer.

Priced at £380 and available end of May.
