Best iPhone apps this week

From curated movie lists to finding out where the party's at, we've picked out the best of the week's apps for iPhone

Flicklist

£Free App Store

Best iPhone apps this week - Flicklist 2

Flicklist feels a bit like a secret club right now as it’s currently invite only – though you can request an early invite on the website. Once you’re in, Flicklist is a great source for discovering new movies to watch. You can curate your own lists of films, develop a Watchlist from recommendations and the lists of others, and rate and review films for others to see. A movie buff’s dream.

Swarmly

£Free App Store

Best iPhone apps this week - Swarmly 2

Ever been at a loose end on a night out, not sure where to go or what’s going on where? Swarmly aims to change that, by presenting you with a map of the bars, clubs and restaurants in your surrounding area, with real-time buzz on what people are saying about them.

Of course, you can add to that buzz with your own message or hashtag, and venues themselves can add special offers to their “Swarm” for customers to take advantage of.

More after the break...

Starmatic

£Free App Store

Best iPhone apps this week - Starmatic 2

The App Store may be bulging with photo-editing apps, but Starmatic is one that deserves a second look. Based on the look and feel of the classic Kodak Brownie Starmatic camera from the 1950s, the app offers 16 standard filters for free with the ability to buy more in-app.

Not only is the interface stunning, it solves the frustrations some users feel with Instagram. For example, you don’t have to square off your images or share them with the Starmatic community, if you don’t want to. Of course, that is part of the fun, with the ability to follow friends and users whose photos you like, as well as discover new people through the trending topics tab.

Indie Shuffle

£Free, App Store

Best iPhone apps this week - Indie Shuffle 2

Indie Shuffle uses the SoundCloud platform to create smart playlists based on your taste in music. Choose your first song, by browsing genres, what’s popular or the latest tracks added, and Indie Shuffle does the rest of the legwork for you – with no ads, no subscription and no listening limit. When you find songs you like, add them to your favourites to create a playlist, or keep shuffling to discover even more new music.

Cosmic Bump

£0.69p, App Store

Best iPhone apps this week - Cosmic Bump 2

With cute appeal to rival that of Cut the Rope, Cosmic Bump sees you helping a spaceship filled with tiny aliens trying to get back to their planet after crash landing on earth. Your job is to help them collect the energy to repair the ship, which is scattered around various obstacle-ridden levels over six stages. Another winning mobile game from Chillingo.
