Sky Sports Live Football Score Centre (£Free)
Keeping up on all the latest news, fixtures and scores in the world of football is no mean feat, but Sky Sports’ excellent Football Score Centre app is quite the know-it-all.
Its home page offers you the most recent news and results at a glance, with the ability to dive deeper into minute-by-minute commentaries (also available on live matches), match photos, team line-ups and match statistics. A recent update lets you set your favourite team (as well as other teams you’re interested in) and receive push notifications on goals and results as they happen, though you are also able to keep an eye on other matches of interest quickly and easily by adding them to the “My Scores” section.
Take a look in the fixtures tab of the app and you’ll find all the games being played in leagues and competitions across the world that day, complete with kick off times – or pick an earlier or upcoming date instead.
Other handy additions include the pub finder, which will locate the nearest pub to you playing the footy, and the ability to watch live within the app for those with a Sky Go or NOW TV subscription. A real one-stop-shop for any football fan.
Score! World Goals (£Free)
Ever dreamed about scoring Beckham’s 2002 injury time goal against Greece or Diego Forlan’s free kick against Ghana in the 2010 World Cup? Score! World Goals lets you do just that, turning your fingers into some of the best players the Beautiful Game has ever seen.
The game sees you recreating 400 of the best goals ever scored, across domestic leagues, European cups and international competitions, with a number of modes and bonus packs to keep replay value high. You’ll start at Amateur level, with limited controls and arrows showing you who the ball should be passed to next and how. Pass this level and you’ll move on to Professional, giving you more control over how the play will pan out, with the length of your swipes determining how far your pass or shot will go.
In-app purchases are at play here, so don’t let its ‘free’ tag fool you – but there’s plenty here to give you a taste of the game first, before you’ll have to start forking out.

More after the break...
Adidas Snapshot (£Free)
While practice may very well make perfect, sometimes you need to take a step back and look at your technique to see where you can improve.
Adidas Snapshot aims to do that by recording your kicks and calculating the speed, angle and distance of your shots. Once you’ve nabbed a mate to film your kick (and there are plenty of instructions to make sure they get it right), you can watch the clip back in real time or super slow mo, tapping the screen to see one frame at a time.
Gareth Bale has recorded a clip to get you started, but once you start building up your own shots, the app will save all your efforts, logging your furthest distance and speed, with the ability to share your stats on Facebook to challenge your mates. There are also plenty of achievements to tick off as you perfect your style – can you beat Bale’s 78mph kick?

Sun+ Goals (£Free + £2/week)
If you can’t afford to fork out for a full sports channel package, The Sun has bagged the rights to show video highlights of every Premier League goal from all 380 matches within minutes of them hitting the back of the net.
These video clips are built into an app packed full of breaking football news, rumours and commentary from the SunSport team, forthcoming fixtures, current scores, results and match reports. Push notifications help you to stay in the know with your chosen team and can even let you know when a new goal video is available to view.
It’s worth noting that UEFA restrictions mean the near-live video content isn’t available between 2.45pm and 5.15pm on a Saturday, but instead, a full highlights video for each match will be available once the restriction lifts. There’s a small subscription of £2 per week to pay, but this also gives you access to the rest of The Sun’s paywall-protected online content.
FourFourTwo Football Stats Zone (£Free)
Everyone’s a pundit these days, but you can make sure you’re more Gary Neville than Robbie Savage by getting all the match stats at your fingertips, while the game is happening or once it’s all over.
Covering matches in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, the A-League and the UEFA Champions League, FourFourTwo Stat Zone – produced by Stuff's sister title – will allow you to analyse a match like never before.
You can look at every single pass, shot, tackle or interception, compare players or teams, see who’s guilty of the most cards and fouls and which player has had the most influence on the pitch. Not only will you become a wealth of knowledge down the pub, but you’ll also be able to use the information to your Fantasy Footballing advantage. Shh, we won’t tell anyone if you don’t.
