If you download an iPhone app from the App Store, then delete it from your phone and/or computer, it’s no biggie – you can download it again for free. The same doesn’t apply to music bought through iTunes – but if rumours are true, that could be set to change.
In order to compete with the likes of cloud-based music services such as Spotify, Pandora and We7, Apple could be planning to launch an “online music locker” into which your iTunes purchases would drop. Not only does this mean you can re-up lost purchases, it would also let you access your music on your connected iOS devices – your iPad, iPod touch or iPhone.
Bloomberg says Apple is currently attempting to thrash out a deal with the major labels, and something is expected to be in place by the middle of the year.
