Six months later, iTunes 1.0 was released.</p> <p>Almost 13 years on, <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/os-x-mavericks-109/review" target="_blank">Mavericks OS X 10.9</a> has just been let into the wild. You upgraded on the day of the release, of course, then lost an evening repairing disk permissions and deleting folders left behind by ancient app installs (just in case they're the culprits slowing your Mac to a kerb crawl).</p> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/users/mark-payton" title="View user profile.">Mark Payton</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> ALFRED </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Spotlight is a keyboard launcher. Recently given a v2.0 upgrade, the little app is triggered by a keyboard shortcut of your choice, and the resulting pop-up will take a whole bucket load of orders - from finding and starting iTunes tracks to searching for contacts. What really lifts it above the herd, though, is the growing library of workflows you can install, mostly created by Alfred's dedicated fans. We at Stuff love Asana, for example - and with a single download and install from the <a href="http://www.alfredworkflow.com" target="_blank">Alfred library</a>, we can now flick tasks into the Asana database in seconds.</p> <p><a href="http://www.alfredapp.com" target="_blank">Get it now</a></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1101" height="713" title="Five apps Apple should have included in Mavericks 10.9" alt="Five apps Apple should have included in Mavericks 10.9" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/alfred-workflow.jpg?1383266674" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> iA Writer </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Pages. Transfixing, isn't it? It's also the app being used to write this copy, using Markdown for formatting (which you should now go Google, because it's glorious and addictive). Feedly, Pocket, Instapaper, Evernote - the cloud is peppered with the stuff you store in the average day. Much of it you never return to, mostly because you can't remember where you put it. That's where ReadKit comes in. It's trying to be the Swiss Army Knife of desktop readers, and not doing a bad job - set it up to sync with your accounts (including Feedly, Pocket and Instapaper), and their engine will pull everything into their single, quite nicely designed interface. And if you want to indulge in a frantic endless loop, you can then share anything in ReadKit back out to any of those cloud services. Mavericks is FREE!</p> <p><strong>18:22&nbsp;</strong>Craig Federighi is tech's new pinup.</p> <p><strong>18:22&nbsp;</strong>I don't know how Apple's execs manage to wear untucked shirts that managed to look so well pressed throughout the duration of their stressful demos. That is the real magic of Apple.</p> <p><strong>18:21&nbsp;</strong>Means you don't have to store your card details with dodgy online retailers any more. You get to entrust them all to Apple instead!</p> <p><strong>18:20&nbsp;</strong>Keychain can now store all of your credit card details, as well as the passwords you're used to. That's neat.</p> <p><strong>18:19&nbsp;</strong>Federighi's wife just IMed him - she's called Hair Force Two. We like self-deprecation.</p> <p><strong>18:18&nbsp;</strong>Federighi's entering demo mode. He's playing with iBooks and Pages documents right now. Mission to Mars is the theme. You can drag words from ebooks to Pages - man, it's going to be so easy to plagiarise great stuff!</p> <p><strong>18:16&nbsp;</strong>The rest of what we're hearing is straight outta WWDC.
