And the two in concert also make it easier to use Moment lenses - Wide and Tele - which attach directly to the case and are immediately recognized by the app.</p> <p>The case connects via Bluetooth LE and uses a cell battery, which should last about six months or more, and <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/584288471/moment-case-worlds-best-iphone-case-for-mobile-pho">Moment&rsquo;s new Kickstarter campaign</a> is asking for US$49 (about &pound;32) for the case, or US$125 (about &pound;82) for the case and one of the available lenses with a cap and cloth sleeve. More elaborate bundles are available, and everything&rsquo;s supposed to ship worldwide beginning in June if funded.</p> <p>Which shouldn&rsquo;t be a problem at all. As of this writing, mere hours after the campaign began, it&rsquo;s already raised more than US$33,000 of the US$100,000 (nearly &pound;66,000) goal, and it seems likely that the Moment Case will be funded before the end of the day. So the lingering question is: Will it be the iPhone camera contraption that really breaks through?</p> <p>[Source: <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/584288471/moment-case-worlds-best-iphone-case-for-mobile-pho">Moment Case on Kickstarter</a>]</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iphone-6/review">Apple iPhone 6 review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/iphone-6/moment-first-iphone-camera-case-you-might-actually-want-use/news" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.stuff.tv/iphone-6/moment-first-iphone-camera-case-you-might-actually-want-use/news#comments Cameras Crowdfunding iPhone 6 Tue, 27 Jan 2015 19:50:27 +0000 Andrew Hayward 1458624 at http://www.stuff.tv Fully Charged: The new Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, a car is being 3D printed at the Detroit Auto Show, and man caught smuggling 94 iPhones against his body http://www.stuff.tv/apple/fully-charged-new-avengers-age-ultron-trailer-car-being-3d-printed-detroit-auto-show-and-man-c <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> All the tech and gadget news you need to start the day off right </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-enable-hero"> <div class="field-label">Enable hero:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Enable full width image </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Avengers: Age of Ultron" alt="Avengers: Age of Ultron" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/avengers-ageofultron-hulkbuster.jpg?1421198332" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/users/andrew-hayward" title="View user profile.">Andrew Hayward</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Here’s the new Avengers trailer </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p class="p1">Can&rsquo;t wait to see the likely-biggest movie of the first 11 months of the year (until&nbsp;<em>Star Wars: The Force Awakens</em>)? It&rsquo;s made of ABS plastic with carbon fiber for strength, and it takes about 44 hours to print the 212 total layers. The end result is the core of the vehicle, which is then paired with the actual inner workings of a car (drivetrain, wiring, tyres, etc.) to produce a drivable vehicle.</p> <p class="p1">The company is also using the opportunity to announce its first two micro-factories, which will let buyers customize a vehicle and have it printed from scratch in very little time. They&rsquo;ll emerge first in the States, in Knoxville, Tennessee and at National Harbor outside Washington D.C. To be fair, Apple&rsquo;s always listened to the sound of profits, and those now require larger handsets. So everyone got bigger iPhones and there was much rejoicing, because they were both rather good, even if the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iphone-6l/review">iPhone 6 Plus</a> required banana thumbs to use one-handed.</p> <p><strong>2. 5K iMac</strong></p> <p>The &lsquo;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-imac-retina-5k-display-hands/review">27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display</a>&rsquo; (as Apple&rsquo;s awkwardly dubbed it) proved to be drop-dead gorgeous, and available starting from a surprisingly reasonable two grand. Dell&rsquo;s management team then presumably threw darts at a photo of Tim Cook, in having to drop its new 5K display&rsquo;s price, which originally only matched the new iMac.</p> <p><strong>3. Opening up iOS 8</strong></p> <p>iOS doesn&rsquo;t yet match Android in terms of extensibility, but <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/ios-8/review">iOS 8</a> went way beyond iOS 7, with extensions for sharing, actions, keyboards and the Photos app. Power users get new tools; devs get new business opportunities; and everyone finally gets swipey keyboards.</p> <p><strong>4. Continuity, not convergence</strong></p> <p>With OS X Yosemite and iOS 8, Apple further integrated its systems. You can fling in-progress documents between devices, and pick up calls on your iMac. But your iMac isn&rsquo;t pretending to be an iPhone, and your iPad isn&rsquo;t a laptop in disguise, with a touchscreen superglued on. This is a good thing.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iphone-6/review">Apple iPhone 6 Review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="940" height="705" title="Bigger screen, better times" alt="Apple in 2014: the good, the bad and the hideous" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/apple-iPhone-6-review-main_4.png?1420709994" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> The Good (continued) </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>5. Apple Watch </strong></p> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/12-things-watchkit-tells-us-about-apple-watch/feature">Apple Watch</a> is something new and, for Apple, quite daring. It&rsquo;s not first to market, but then Apple&rsquo;s never first - it just wants to be best. Apple Watch is also Apple broadening its horizons; rivals have tweaked people&rsquo;s tech buttons with their own smartwatches, but Apple&rsquo;s also gunning for the fashion world.</p> <p><strong>6. Rising Mac sales</strong></p> <p>For a while, everyone thought the Mac was on borrowed time, but Apple celebrated the Mac&rsquo;s 30th birthday in 2014, and bucked trends in the PC market with rising sales. This will only continue with the 5K iMac and a likely Retina MacBook Air in the not-too-distant. (Well, we can hope.)</p> <p><strong>7. Personal privacy</strong></p> <p>Apple&rsquo;s quite clearly differentiating itself from another tech giant with its stance on privacy. During 2014, Apple placed emphasis on encrypting user data so even it can&rsquo;t gain access, and stopping governments and devs alike digging too deep. This might result in odd moments of frustration due to limitations, but it&rsquo;s an honourable and important stance.</p> <p><strong>8. Another IBM partnership</strong></p> <p>This time, it&rsquo;s not about chips (Sorry, PowerPC fans.), but the enterprise. That&rsquo;s not really Apple&rsquo;s thing, but it&rsquo;s certainly IBM&rsquo;s. Cue: some really weird buzzword-drenched press releases that felt distinctly un-Apple. But fruits of labours are now showing, with some very smart apps; and if iPad can further cement itself in business, it might thrive rather than stagnate.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iphone-7/review">Apple iPhone 7 - all the rumours rated</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="900" height="675" title="Brave new iWatch" alt="Apple in 2014: the good, the bad and the hideous" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/watch-0.jpg?1420709994" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> The Good (continued) </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>9. OS X public beta </strong></p> <p>Usually, we get a raft of rumours just before an Apple OS arrives, but for OS X Yosemite, Apple went public with the beta, collecting data, fixing problems, and giving people a taste of what was to come - probably a wise move, given the radical visual overhaul and subsequent freak-out that iOS 7 caused.</p> <p><strong>10. Apple Pay</strong></p> <p>Non-Americans were rightly bemused by the big deal Apple made about how tricky it is to actually pay for things with cards, but Apple Pay *is* important in showing that Apple continues to think different and think big. The system beats clunky rivals for user experience, but only time will tell if retail fiefdoms will be an insurmountable hurdle for Apple.</p> <p><strong>11. An insanely large cash pile</strong></p> <p>Apple&rsquo;s growth has slowed, but it nonetheless continues to have record quarters in terms of income and profits. 2014 saw it buy Beats, among other things, and continue to invest in what if feels matters, such as green energy provision.</p> <p><strong>12. Tim Cook</strong></p> <p>We always thought people were idiots for yelling that Cook should stand down as CEO, and 2014 was his year. Apple became Cook&rsquo;s Apple, with new products and new ways of thinking. Also, props to Cook himself for his shareholder meeting responses (&ldquo; When we work on making our devices accessible by the blind, I don&rsquo;t consider the bloody ROI!&rdquo;), and his level-headed and sincere Businessweek article about his sexuality: &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t consider myself an activist, but I realize how much I&rsquo;ve benefited from the sacrifice of others. So if hearing that the CEO of Apple is gay can help someone struggling to come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it&rsquo;s worth the trade-off with my own privacy.&rdquo;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/everything-you-need-know-about-apple-iphone-6-and-6-plus/feature">The A-Z of Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="604" height="453" title="Scaling the heights of Yosemite " alt="Apple in 2014: the good, the bad and the hideous" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Apple-Yosemite-Desktop-2_0.png?1420709994" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> The Bad </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>1. Dwindling iPad sales </strong></p> <p>iPad sales are in a slump, with&nbsp;<em>The Guardian</em> arguing we&rsquo;ve reached &lsquo;peak tablet&rsquo;. Clearly, the iPad&rsquo;s hardly dead tech, though - Apple&rsquo;s still selling millions of the things every quarter. But 2014 was the first year its &lsquo;magical&rsquo; device was questioned, and 2015 will in part have to be about reinvigorating sales.</p> <p><strong>2. iPad mini 3</strong></p> <p>And this isn&rsquo;t the way to do that. Usually, we recommend getting the newest and greatest iPad. In 2013, the iPad mini 2 was phenomenal value, almost identical to the iPad Air. This year, the Air 2 got some major upgrades and the iPad mini 3 got&hellip; Touch ID. For 80 quid. The iPad mini 2 is now a much better buy than its successor, and that&rsquo;s just crazy.</p> <p><strong>3. Bendgate </strong></p> <p>Every iPhone gets its *gate, and this time it was claimed the iPhone 6 would bend just by keeping it in your pocket for a bit. Subsequent independent testing showed this to be codswallop - Apple merely got a handful of complaints, and the new iPhones were on par with other devices of similar size, in terms of &lsquo;bendiness&rsquo;. But the tag stuck, and Apple had another PR headache on its hands.</p> <p><strong>4. Enforced U2</strong></p> <p>Last time we joked about this, a disgruntled U2 fan ragequit our Facebook feed, so we won&rsquo;t dwell. But, yeah, it was uncool for <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-s-free-u2-album-exercise-tone-deaf-music-spam/feature">Apple to inject <em>Songs Of Innocence </em>into everyone&rsquo;s library</a>; worse, it made some people think they&rsquo;d been hacked.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-pay-more-pay-apple/feature">Apple Pay? An iCloud hack was initially blamed, but Apple argued the celebs had most likely been caught out by phishing. Regardless, this was a bad moment for Apple and, frankly, the entire tech world.</p> <p><strong>6. Apple TV</strong></p> <p>We love the Apple TV, but we&rsquo;re not sure Apple does. The little black box has merrily sat there throughout 2014, getting the odd new &lsquo;app&rsquo; and not much else, while the competition&rsquo;s blazed past. C&rsquo;mon, Apple - don&rsquo;t give up on the little guy!</p> <p><strong>7. App rejection craziness</strong></p> <p>The PCalc widget gets featured on the App Store while simultaneously being threatened with expulsion. Launcher&rsquo;s dev claims Apple has his app publicly pulled as a warning to other devs. <em>Papers, Please</em> is told to scrap dystopian pixelated nudity, which Apple considers &ldquo;pornographic&rdquo;. File manager Transmit for iOS is forced to remove iCloud upload, and therefore Apple&rsquo;s standard iOS Document Picker. Most of these decisions were later reversed, but this was not a good year for the apps review team.</p> <p><strong>8. Upsell hell</strong></p> <p>Upselling is part and parcel of capitalism, but Apple&rsquo;s gotten cynical. Its kit used to be ordered &lsquo;good/better/best&rsquo;. Now you get &lsquo;no way in hell/OK, FINE/best&rsquo;. Apple should simply not be selling 16GB iPhones and iPads any more; the low-end iMac is also a joke. This feels like accountants figuring out how to boost earnings rather than a company with products where you&rsquo;d say to someone: &ldquo;Get whichever model you want - they&rsquo;re *all* good.&rdquo;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/icheapskate-25-best-free-apps-iphone-and-ipad/feature">The 38 best free apps for iPhone and iPad</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="604" height="453" title="All quiet on the TV front" alt="Apple in 2014: the good, the bad and the hideous" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/apple-tv-06_1.jpg?1420709994" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-5"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> The Bad (continued) </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>9. Bugs </strong></p> <p>In 2014, it often felt like Apple was doing too much. An iOS 8 update temporarily removed iPhone cell capabilities; a &lsquo;reset all settings&rsquo; bug wiped iCloud files; and OS X Yosemite can be crashtastic. &lsquo; It just works&rsquo; became &lsquo; It just works&hellip; mostly&rsquo;, and that&rsquo;s not very Apple.</p> <p><strong>10. iCloud storage</strong></p> <p>It was good to see Apple drop iCloud&rsquo;s ludicrous pricing tiers to a level that was less ludicrous, but the free 5GB tier now looks pathetic, and should at the very least be increased to allow back-ups across all your devices. We shudder to think how rapidly iCloud accounts will fill when Apple properly turns on auto-uploading every photo you take and edit you make to Photo Stream.</p> <p><strong>11. iOS install lag</strong></p> <p>At Apple&rsquo;s October iPad event, Apple oddly for the first time spoke about combined install figures for the last *two* major releases of iOS. This is because iOS 8 had stalled. Maybe this was because of the whopping amount of space required for an over-the-air update (hey, Apple, we keep saying about those 16GB devices&hellip;), or perhaps it just didn&rsquo;t look that different to the average punter. Even today, it lags behind iOS 7 uptake during the same time period (around 60%, compared to high 70s for its predecessor), and that&rsquo;s not good (even if Android would kill for similar figures).</p> <p><strong>12. Death of the iPod Classic</strong></p> <p>Most of us saw this coming, but that little music player was representative of the &lsquo;new Apple&rsquo;, and it&rsquo;s sad to see it go. Still, it&rsquo;ll live on for a while in news reports of crazy people buying whatever stock remains of the 160GB model, for crazy prices; because, clearly, a device being on sale for *five years* doesn&rsquo;t provide enough time to place an order!</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/ipod-classic-obituary-thank-you-music/feature">iPod Classic Obituary</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="2592" height="1944" title="Bidding farewell to a giant of the music industry" alt="Apple in 2014: the good, the bad and the hideous" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/IPod_classic_6G_black_new_interface-2007-09-15.jpg?1420709994" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-6"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> THE HIDEOUS </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>1. If not, and it was a different smartphone or tablet, you might be in the minority: app analytics firm Flurry reports that Apple devices claimed 51.3% of all new device activations during the week leading up to and including Christmas Day.</p> <p>Flurry collects its information based on installations of the 600,000+ apps it tracks, and not only was Apple the lead manufacturer of devices activated worldwide during that span (with the iPhone 6 leading all individual devices), but it wasn&rsquo;t even a close race. Samsung was next with 17.7%, Microsoft/Nokia was third with 5.8%, and Sony and LG mustered 1.6% and 1.4% respectively.</p> <p>&ldquo; While the holidays in general and Christmas in particular are not the sole indicator of the smartphone market share and trends,&rdquo; cautions the report, &ldquo;it is safe to say that Apple&rsquo;s newly released iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have had a blockbuster holiday season.&rdquo;</p> <p>On that last point, the report also notes that phablet activations surged over last year. Just 4% of device activations last year during this span were phablets, but that number rose to 13% this year. Meanwhile, tablet activations dipped (especially in the full-size category), and small phone activations now comprise just 2% of those recorded.</p> <p>[Source:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.flurry.com/blog/flurry-insights/apple-and-apps-dominated-christmas-2014">Flurry</a>]</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/smartphones/top-ten">The Top 10 Smartphones</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Halo 5 beta is live, plus limited editions revealed </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Hyped for&nbsp;<em>Halo 5: Guardians</em>, next fall&rsquo;s massive Xbox One exclusive? Be glad that the iPhone doesn&rsquo;t have a part that gives you a shock when you&rsquo;re underachieving.</p> <p><strong>Battery</strong></p> <p>Despite the larger, higher resolution screens and bump in specs, the new iPhones promise better battery life. You can expect around 11 hours of continuous video playback on the 6, while the 6 Plus goes up to 14 hours. And we&rsquo;ve gotten over a day and a half on our review units with heavy usage to back up those claims too.</p> <p>With iOS 8, you can now also see which apps are draining the most battery from Settings.&nbsp; You can&rsquo;t actually do anything in there though, it&rsquo;s just knowledge for you to make usage adjustments.</p> <p><strong>Bluetooth LE</strong></p> <p>The presence of Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy means that your Bluetooth streaming, AirDrop transfers, or iBeacon interactions are faster and use less energy. That&rsquo;ll result in better battery life. It&rsquo;ll only make a difference if the device you&rsquo;re connecting to has Bluetooth LE too, of course.</p> <p><strong>Bendgate</strong></p> <p>We&rsquo;ve all read reports of the iPhone 6 Plus warping in users&rsquo; pockets. Someone even made a viral video of himself damaging one pretty badly by bending it with his bare hands. However, Apple has come out to say that official complaints on the iPhone 6 bending are less than 10. Consumer Reports also released their findings that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are actually pretty resilient. And with the latest update, you can capture even slower slow-motion videos at 240fps, perfect for more epic shots in all their fluid glory.</p> <p>If you&rsquo;re looking for something even more cinematic, time-lapse videos should do the trick. Just press the record button and your camera will do all the hard processing work for you. The only thing you have to worry about is your battery running out before you get all the footage needed.&nbsp;</p> <p>As for stills, you now get exposure controls in real time. Taking a photo or a video and tapping the screen (just like you would normally focus) will turn up a little sun icon. Tapping it will bring up a slider that you can use to adjust exposure up to four f-stops lighter or darker to get your desired image.&nbsp;</p> <p>Landscape shots are also better than ever, with 43MP Panoramas and better exposure adjustments so they emerge as one seamless stitch. Sunset at the Grand Canyon? No problem for this smart shooter, even with the tricky shadows.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Campus</strong></p> <p>Whenever you see mentions of Cupertino in anything related to Apple, they&rsquo;re talking about the Apple Campus, their corporate headquarters at 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino, California. It currently occupies around 850,000 square feet, with the company even leasing an additional 3.3m square feet of office space in the city itself to accommodate all its employees. &nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Continuity</strong></p> <p>Reap the benefits of having an entire suite of iThings with this seamless feature (provided you also have iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite). Hear a call coming in, but your iPhone&rsquo;s nowhere near you while you&rsquo;re working on your Mac or iPad? Just answer it directly (or reject it) on your other devices so long as your iOS 8-running iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi network. You can also message contacts directly from your iThings without rummaging through your belongings for your iPhone.</p> <p>It&rsquo;s not just about calls and texts either. Handoff is a feature that allows you to continue working across iThings on iOS 8 native apps such as Keynote, Pages, and Numbers. This is perfect if you need to be on the move without losing any of your work or going through the tedious process of downloading and uploading again. Works for Safari browsing and composing in Mail too.</p> <p><strong>Craig Federighi</strong></p> <p>As Apple&rsquo;s senior vice president of Software Engineering, Federighi was the man responsible for developing iOS 8. A huge difference from the flat, sharp angles on the 5s.</p> <p>The size difference is even more obvious on the iPhone 6 Plus. It&rsquo;s 5.5in as compared to the 4in iPhone 5s &ndash; by far, the biggest of any iPhone. But besides the size and thickness, most of the design elements we mention above are the same across the newly launched units.</p> <p>As for thickness, the iPhone 6 has a thin 6.9mm profile, while the 6 Plus&rsquo; sits at 7.1mm. They&rsquo;re both considerably skinnier than their 7.5mm predecessor, despite packing a lot more power. Face detection is also more intelligent, meaning your best shots from burst mode are less likely to have you looking all squinty eyed.&nbsp;</p> <p>There&rsquo;s one major difference between the two iPhone 6 models though; the iPhone 6 uses digital image stabilisation while the iPhone 6 Plus has optical image stabilisation. This means performance of games on iOS 8 will be top-notch &ndash; faster and more responsive. For example, graphics in a 3D game will perform up to 10 times faster with Metal. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/icheapskate-25-amazing-free-games-ipad-and-iphone/feature">The best free games for iPhone and iPad</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="484" title="M8 motion coprocessor" alt="This is EVERYTHING you need to know about the Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/M8%20motion%20coprocessor.jpg?1419734345" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-title"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Go Metal with these games </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-body-text"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Body Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>Modern Combat 5: Blackout &nbsp;(&pound;2.49 / <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/modern-combat-5-blackout/id656176278?mt=8" target="_blank">download Modern Combat 5: Blackout here</a>)</strong></p> <p>Considered by many to be one of the best FPS games on iOS, <em>Modern Combat 5</em> puts you back into your combat boots. The latter, at least, are present for practical as well as aesthetic reasons: with a metal-backed phone it&rsquo;s hard to scoot the signal in and out, and the flush rubberised lines sort this.</p> <p>The iPhone 6 Plus, meanwhile, will undoubtedly be too big for some hands. That said, the combination of its super-thin body and smooth metal build make it easier to hold and use than you might expect. Not anymore on the iPhone. Voice over LTE (VoLTE) is still in its early stages, but the launch of the iPhone 6 pushed telcos to introduce this high-quality call service. This also means you get to surf on LTE speeds while you&rsquo;re taking a call. Useful when you have to quickly grab a piece of info off the web while on a conference call.</p> <p>You&rsquo;ll also enjoy another benefit &ndash; better battery life. Without the constant switch between a 3G and LTE network when you are between calls, your phone won&rsquo;t require as much effort or juice.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-22"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> W is for... </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>Weight&nbsp;</strong></p> <p>Considering the iPhone 6&rsquo;s 4.7in size, its weight comes in at only 129g. Seems pretty light for a mega-sized iPhone.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Wi-Fi&nbsp;</strong></p> <p>It&rsquo;s a given that a new model from Apple usually includes faster Wi-Fi speed. This is true for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, both of which support 802.11ac, which is 3x faster than regular Wi-Fi 802.11n. But again, you&rsquo;ll need to know there&rsquo;s a catch &ndash; supporting faster download speeds doesn&rsquo;t equate to getting it. This is a lifesaver when your office Wi-Fi network is decent, but the area has poor cellular coverage. Until now. Let&rsquo;s start with the &lsquo;big&rsquo; 4.7in screen. It&rsquo;s not nearly as sharp as the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/g3/lg-g3/review">LG G3</a> (or the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/moto-x-2014/review">Moto X </a>or <a href="http://site:stuff.tv sony xperia z3">Xperia Z3</a>). And a Full HD screen would be joint-first on our tweak list.&nbsp; But in every other way it&rsquo;s top-class and the pixels really do look like they&rsquo;re sitting on the glass.</p> <p>A bigger, Android-sized screen means a bigger, Android-sized body. But this 6.9mm-thick design with a seamless all-metal back (in gold, silver or black) and glossy front outclasses all bar the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/htc/htc-one-2/review">HTC One M8</a>. It&rsquo;s close to flawless. Even iOS 8 is as free and easy as Apple is likely to get. with app extensions which open up core functionalities to devs and widgets popping up in notifications.</p> <p>Elsewhere, the iPhone&rsquo;s already smooth performance gets another boost thanks to an A8 chip, the 8MP camera is faster and better than ever, and battery life increases slightly if not dramatically (that&rsquo;s saved for the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iphone-6l/review">5.5in iPhone 6 Plus</a>).</p> <p>This is still Apple. It&rsquo;s still the most expensive option. Then there&rsquo;s the friendliness of iOS, the earliest, prettiest apps, the big Apple Pay partnerships. The iPhone continues to push ahead in many areas and now it&rsquo;s beaten (most) Androids at their own game.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="940" height="705" title="Could bring Android fans back to iOS" alt="Apple iPhone 6 vs Sony Xperia Z3 vs LG G3 vs Motorola Moto X vs Samsung Galaxy A" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/apple-iPhone-6-review-main_2.png?1420200652" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-title"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Apple iPhone 6 tech specs </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-body-text"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Body Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Screen: 4.7in IPS, 1334x720 (326ppi)<br />Processor: Apple A8 @ 1.4GHz<br />Cameras: 8MP rear, 1.2MP front<br />Storage: 16GB, 64GB, 128GB (non-expandable)&nbsp;<br />Battery: 1810mAh<br />Dimensions: 138 x 68 x 6.9mm, 129g&nbsp;</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> The Detail </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>Design - large, light and slim 9/10</strong><br />If you want the very best iPhone, you can&rsquo;t have a small smartphone any more. To help out upgraders from the 5 and 5s, Apple has made the iPhone 6 curvier, incredibly light at 129g and seriously slim. Maybe a bit too slim &ndash; the camera lens protrudes from the back of the phone, like the top of&nbsp;a tiny periscope, and we can&rsquo;t help lusting after a slightly chunkier iPhone with room for a bigger battery unit. It might only be 8MP but it&rsquo;s the most reliable snapper here and the fastest to open and get focus (thanks to phase detection Focus Pixels); the controls are speedy and images rarely disappointing. It&rsquo;s not capable of the manual heights of the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sony/sony-xperia-z3/review">Xperia Z3</a> but it is designed around how we take photos. The new exposure slider is genius, low-light pics look superb &ndash; better even than the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/g3/lg-g3/review">G3&rsquo;s efforts</a> &ndash; and auto HDR is brilliant. AF in video is almost instantaneous and slo-mo vids are now 240fps.</p> <p><strong>OS and apps - radical changes 10/10</strong><br />It&rsquo;s all change in iOS 8 with swappable keyboards, third-party filters in Photos and Touch ID fingerprint authentication in apps such as Amazon. Health is a neat hub for fitness data and Apple Pay (via NFC) is launching in the US. The<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sony/sony-xperia-z3/review"> 5.2in Z3</a> is good for one and a half to two days on a single charge. Standby is superb, there&rsquo;s every level of battery-saving mode imaginable and the Z3 lasts a whopping 13 hours 55 minutes on our HD video loop&nbsp;test &ndash; the best result here. </p> <p>Stamina is also the reason Sony has stuck with a 1080p screen rather than going 2K like the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/g3/lg-g3/review">LG G3</a>. The screen is now 20% brighter and just as terrific at reproducing colours as the Z2. Zero corners have been cut. The 20.7MP camera remains one for enthusiasts with a new wide angle G lens, up to ISO 12800 in manual, and SteadyShot stabilisation for video. </p> <p>And overall performance is flawless, from fast downloads to running small apps smoothly.</p> <p>That doesn&rsquo;t mean it&rsquo;s as lovely to live with as others here. The design has improved, with curved sides and a skinnier, 11g lighter build than the Z2, but it&rsquo;s still not the most ergonomic big phone.</p> <p>There are little niggles here and there too: from low volume levels with headphones to Sony pushing its subscription services. Sony&#39;s unobtrusive front-facing stereo speakers are clear and loud though when game sound effects are on full blast, you&#39;ll really feel the vibrations. </p> <p>Ultimately, the Z3 has more specialist tricks than its rivals &ndash; hi-res audio and PS4 streaming &ndash; so it should be on every smartphone shortlist.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE</strong>: <strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sony/sony-xperia-z3-compact/review">Sony Xperia Z3 Compact review&nbsp;</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="940" height="705" alt="Apple iPhone 6 vs Sony Xperia Z3 vs LG G3 vx Motorola Moto X vs Samsung Galaxy A" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/xperiaz3-ross-1_0.jpg?1420200652" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-title"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Sony Xperia Z3 tech specs </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-body-text"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Body Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Screen: 5.2in IPS, 1920x1080 (424ppi)&nbsp;<br />Processor: Quad-core Snapdragon 801 @ 2.5GHz<br />Cameras: 20.7MP rear, 2.2MP front<br />Storage: 16GB, 32GB (expandable)&nbsp;<br />Battery: 3100mAh<br />Dimensions: 146 x 72 x 7.3mm, 152g&nbsp;</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-5"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> The Details </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>Design - no rice bag required 8/10</strong><br />At first glance this looks like the early-2014 Xperia Z2. No hype. No queues around the block. And yet, this is one of the best Androids ever made.</p> <p>There&rsquo;s just as much to love about what Motorola has designed and refined as what it has left alone. This phone is all about making Google&rsquo;s powerful services constantly available and useful. Apart from a few extremely useful, forward-thinking apps (which are helpfully bundled together) this is pretty much pure Android KitKat. You choose what to set up. And you can&rsquo;t get faster than this &ndash; opening apps, browsing, messaging &ndash; there&rsquo;s zero lag.</p> <p>It&rsquo;s no plain Nexus, though. You could hammer a nail in with the sleek, solid aluminium build and it&rsquo;s the most customisable phone on the planet thanks to Moto Maker. The bright 5.2in 1080p AMOLED screen is gorgeous, with superb viewing angles, vivid colours and deep blacks. Plus Moto&rsquo;s Attentive Display sensors turn it off when you&rsquo;re not looking, helping the 2300mAh battery to comfortably last all day long.</p> <p>Is it perfect? Is anything? Its non-expandable storage maxes out at 32GB, and if photography is your top priority some rivals make more sense. It&rsquo;s worth noting that the regular black resin model is a steal but other materials cost more. This could be the first 4.7in-plus phone smaller hands find manageable. It&rsquo;s perfectly balanced and buttons are easy to reach on the right-hand edge &ndash; the power button is textured so you can identify it. The microUSB and nanoSIM slots are top and bottom, leaving the tapered sides clutter-free.</p> <p>Unlike the cheaper <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/moto-g/best-cheap-smartphone-you-can-buy/feature">Moto G</a>, the X oddly doesn&#39;t have stereo speakers; but the front-facing single speaker is clear and loud enough for a bit of grime on the bus.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Screen - strikes a good punch 9/10</strong><br />The Moto X&rsquo;s display is on the punchier end of the spectrum, without looking too alien, but the downside of AMOLED colours is that from certain angles whites can look a bit yellow. It&rsquo;s 424ppi, so text&nbsp;looks seriously smooth.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>OS and Apps - good night, dear phone 10/10&nbsp;</strong><br />Motorola&rsquo;s always-on sensors, controls and software have really come into their own. Our favourite is the addictive, battery-saving Moto Display, showing hidden monochrome notifications on the lockscreen. Using IR sensors, the phone recognises when your hand approaches it and triggers&nbsp;up to three icons. Elsewhere, you can set up modes that&nbsp;can be turned on and off via natural commands such as &ldquo;Good night&rdquo;. Speaking of voice control, it&rsquo;s always-on, plus &ldquo;OK Google&rdquo; can be swapped for any custom phrase.&nbsp;&nbsp; <p><strong>Camera - considerate flasher 8/10&nbsp;</strong><br />A huge improvement over the first Moto, this 13MP cam takes detailed shots in good light and smooth 1080p video. Both the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iphone-6/review">iPhone</a> and <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/g3/lg-g3/review">LG G3</a> are faster and more capable in low light &ndash; though the X&rsquo;s new ring flash is slightly kinder to faces.&nbsp; The Moto&#39;s sensors let you wave to silence calls and alarms and twist your wrist twice to launch the camera - ideal for keeping your eyes on the scene.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:</strong> <strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/moto-x-2014/review">Moto X review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" alt="Apple iPhone 6 vs Sony Xperia Z3 vs LG G3 vx Motorola Moto X vs Samsung Galaxy A" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/motorola-moto-x-hi-res.png?1420200652" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="3000" height="2000" alt="Apple iPhone 6 vs Sony Xperia Z3 vs LG G3 vx Motorola Moto X vs Samsung Galaxy A" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/motorola-moto-x-detail-1.jpg?1420200652" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="3000" height="2000" alt="Apple iPhone 6 vs Sony Xperia Z3 vs LG G3 vx Motorola Moto X vs Samsung Galaxy A" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/motorola-moto-x-review-detail-2.jpg?1420200652" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-8"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> 4. This style arrives as a metal band around the Alpha and is a sign of things
to come &ndash; the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/samsung/samsung-galaxy-note-4/review">Note 4 </a>has already followed suit. The flat aluminium rim makes the Alpha feel cool and hard, where previous all-plastic Galaxys felt clammy. Edges are bevelled and a little sharp and the shape seems closer to an iPhone 5s than any Android. Most importantly, it feels solid.</p> <p>The 4.7in AMOLED display isn&rsquo;t the sharpest but it&rsquo;s bright (really very bright) with searingly vivid colours (which, thankfully, you can tone down) and brilliantly deep blacks. The home button doubles up as a finger scanner, there are tons of extras such as an Ultra Power Saving mode and the 12MP rear cam shoots consistently great snaps.</p> <p>Performance is lickety-split and software lag has been tightened up.Battery life is simply good, nothing more. The Alpha lasts a day of regular use or a respectable 10 hours on our 720p video rundown. There&rsquo;s no microSD

And nothing&rsquo;s changed. Since then the likes of the iPhone 6 and Moto X have caught up but not surpassed the LG on paper &ndash; and the G3 has even dropped in price.</p> <p>Since the 2K screen on the G3 was announced, no-one but maverick Chinese phone-maker Oppo has matched the resolution, with Sony choosing battery life over pixels. After months with the G3, would we take a 1080p screen for more than a day&rsquo;s battery? Probably, if the superb display tech remained and stamina could match the Xperia Z3.</p> <p>It&rsquo;s the biggest screen here at 5.5in but, unlike the iPhone 6 Plus, the expertly engineered body still feels manageable for all but the smallest of hands. It&rsquo;s not jaw-droppingly beautiful but it is practical.</p> <p>Fast, accurate and reliable, the 13MP cam shouldn&rsquo;t feel ashamed that the new iPhone snaps better pics of faces in low light. It&rsquo;s still one of the sharpest shooters around. There&rsquo;s still very little lag around Android &ndash; the Snapdragon 801 is holding up well &ndash; but the Moto X is milliseconds faster at day-to-day tasks.</p> <p>Is it as much of a joy to live with as sleeker, more intuitive rivals? Not quite. But the G3 remains a fantastically future-proof choice and will continue to grace out Top 10 list for some time.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE</strong>: <strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/g3/lg-g3/review">LG G3 review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="940" height="705" alt="Apple iPhone 6 vs Sony Xperia Z3 vs LG G3 vx Motorola Moto X vs Samsung Galaxy A" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20Main_0_0_6.jpg?1420200652" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-title"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> LG G3 tech specs </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-body-text"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Body Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Screen: 5.5in 2560 x 1440 (534ppi) IPS<br />Processor: Quad-core Snapdragon 801 @ 2.5GHz&nbsp;<br />Cameras: 13MP rear, 2MP front<br />Storage: 16GB, 32GB (expandable)&nbsp;<br />Battery: 3000mAh<br />Dimensions: 146 x 75 x 8.9mm, 149g&nbsp;</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-11"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> The Details </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>Design - faux metal but manageable - 9/10</strong><br />Although the overall size of the G3 is manageable with well positioned buttons, we&rsquo;re less enamoured with the faux metal now we&rsquo;ve fondled both the iPhone and the Moto X&rsquo;s leather and wood options. But Apple clearly sees value in changing the context of how you grab gratis apps and games.</p> <p>[Source: <a href="http://recode.net/2014/11/19/free-apps-arent-free-in-apples-app-store-any-more/">Recode</a>]</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-ipad-air-2/review">iPad Air 2 review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Motorola debuts Keylink </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Do you frequently misplace your smartphone and/or keys? In the case of Apple and iOS 8, it&rsquo;s that those users who hadn&rsquo;t updated yet are widely resisting the move.</p> <p>Within the first few days of release, Apple&rsquo;s stats showed that 46% of active iOS device owners had upgraded to iOS 8 - an especially impressive number, given that the iPhone 4 was lopped off of the compatibility list for this version.</p> <p>But following the debacle with the broken iOS 8.0.1 release, that number has only increased 1% in the weeks since. And weirdly, the percentage of users running a version prior to iOS 7 grew as well (from 5% to 6%).
