Portsmouth has UK’s fastest 3G speeds

Top 10 includes Liverpool, Nottingham, Newcastle and Leeds – and London's lagging behind

Stuff.tv readers in Portsmouth rejoice, your city has the fastest 3G connection in the UK. According to price comparison site uSwitch, Portsmouth’s 3G download speed is racing ahead of the pack at 3.56Mbps, a full 24% faster than those sluggards in London (2.71Mbps). The capital’s lagging in 24th place, behind the likes of Liverpool, Nottingham, Newcastle and Leeds.

The survey of over 1,000 smartphone users also found that 39% are unhappy with their current 3G speeds. Still, with 4G possibly coming to the UK earlier than expected, it may not be a problem we have for long.

According to uSwitch, the top 10 UK cities for 3G download speeds are:

1. Portsmouth – 3.554Mbps

2. Liverpool – 3.297Mbps

3. Stoke-on-Trent – 3.26Mbps

4. Nottingham – 3.19Mbps

5. Bradford – 3.124Mbps

6. York – 3.118Mbps

7. Glasgow – 3.117Mbps

8. Newcastle – 3.095Mbps

9. Sheffield – 3.057Mbps

10. Leeds – 3.057Mbps
