It seems that Apple's iBooks may not be available in the UK in time for launch.

We noticed yesterday that the ebook store, which was unveiled with the iPad on Wednesday, was listed as "US only" in a small footnote at the bottom of the American iPad features page.

Now the folks over at Reg Hardware have spied that the UK iPad website is strangely absent from any mention of iBooks – no doubt one of the iPad's main draws for consumers.

The delay is probably to do with securing the rights to distribute the books in other parts of the world, but it's rather annoying that instead of choosing to face this head on and tell us about it, Apple has opted to keep us in the dark over any plans or developments.

It therefore puts concerns over exactly how long it could take to see the app launch here, and as Reg Hardware also point out, it may suggest that iBooks will only allow you to use books bought through the app, rather than ebooks you may already own. And that would be rather annoying.

We'll have to wait and see, but we'll be sure to keep you updated. Let us know if the lack of iBooks would stop you buying the iPad below.
