according to the <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/03/technology/building-a-better-battery.html?pagewanted=all&amp;_r=2" target="_blank">New York Times</a>.</p> <p>Sources &quot;close to the efforts&quot; have revealed that Apple has been working on an iWatch screen with a solar charging layer &ndash; though the technology is reportedly some way off being a practical reality. &nbsp;</p> <p>Apple has already filed patents for a solar charging screen, and Alcatel has previously shown off its own solar charging screen technology.</p> <p>Apple has also experimented with wireless inductive charging similar to that found in some Nokia Lumia smartphones. &nbsp;</p> <p>A 2009 patent reveals that Apple has also dabbled in motion charging, which would use the kinetic energy of the wearer&#39;s swinging arm to top up the iWatch&#39;s battery.</p> <p>Of course we don&#39;t expect Apple to cram all of this charging tech into a single device, but we&#39;re hoping that one or two innovations will be enough to avoid regular charging. Our phones suck up enough juice as it is, thank you very much.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="466" title="Apple iWatch" alt="Apple iWatch" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/iwatch-iphone_3_0.jpg?1409588140" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-4"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> More than a smartwatch </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="http://bgr.com/2013/10/10/iphone-6-bigger-display-iwatch-details-cantor/" target="_blank">Analyst Brian White of Cantor Fitzgerald </a>believes that the iWatch will be more than just an extension of your iPhone, as it will have home automation abilities baked directly into it.&nbsp;</p> <p>Controlling your central heating and lights from your watch sounds like a genuinely useful feature and one which will definitely set the iWatch apart from the competition &ndash; if it turns out to be true.</p> <p>The iWatch is also expected to have powerful health-tracking abilites, thanks to iOS 8 and its in-built Healthbook app.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/ios-8-could-track-your-fitness-new-healthbook-app/news" target="_blank">iOS 8 could track your fitness with new Healthbook app</a></strong></p> <p>According to <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2014/01/31/iwatch-ios-8-apple-sets-out-to-redefine-mobile-health-fitness-tracking/" target="_blank">9to5Mac</a>, The Healthbook app will be able to track steps taken, calories burned and distance travelled, in addition to keeping a tally on your weight loss (or gain, for that matter). Kuo believes that the iWatch will use a flexible AMOLED display, a waterproof body and a sapphire crystal screen cover, and combining and manufacturing all of these components is the reason he gives for the delay.</p> <p>We could therefore see the iWatch strut its stuff on stage in October, with its retail launch landing at least one month later.</p> <p><strong>Update 01/09/14:</strong> Now that we know Apple is holding <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/its-official-apple-sends-out-invites-9-september-event/news">an event on 9th September</a>, there&#39;s a good chance we might get our first official glimpse of the iWatch then. Since taking the helm at Apple, Tim Cook has already approved an increase in the iPhone&#39;s screen size to 4in, and the iPhone 6 is going much, much further. In fact, it looks liks Apple will launch two iPhone 6 models; a 4.7in iPhone 6, and a 5.5 in model, which may rejoice under the name <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iphone-6l/review" target="_blank">iPhone 6L</a>.</p> <p>The iPhone is finally following in its Android and Windows Phone rivals&rsquo; footsteps, and that&rsquo;s largely (no pun intended) a good thing &ndash; although we expect the decision to upset the many proponents of one-handed phone use still out there.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="A leaked 4.7in iPhone 6 next to a Samsung Galaxy S5" alt="A leaked 4.7in iPhone 6 next to a Samsung Galaxy S5" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/iphone_6_leak_galaxy_s5_white_gsmarena_1.jpg?1409315581" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> More storage space </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>Why does it need it?</strong><br />The iPhone 5s comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB options, and that might seem like enough to you in comparison to Apple&rsquo;s smartphone rivals (the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/g3/lg-g3/review">LG G3</a> has 16GB, the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/htc/htc-one-2/review">HTC One M8</a> 16GB or 32GB, the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/android/oneplus-one/review">OnePlus One</a> 16GB or 64GB). But with most of these rivals offering expandable storage via a microSD slot and Apple remaining resolutely expansion-free, there&rsquo;s a lack of flexibility there that hurts current iPhone models.</p> <p><strong>Will it get it?</strong><br />Quite possibly. Rumour has it 16GB will no longer be an option for the iPhone 6, that the 4.7in version will come in 32GB and 64GB flavours and that the 5.5in version will also offer a 128GB option. As for a microSD slot, we wouldn&rsquo;t hold your breath: Apple likes to keep its smartphone lines as clean as possible, and an extra slot for cards just doesn&rsquo;t fit in with that ethos. And you&rsquo;d be right: it&rsquo;ll capture really lovely images and video, including buttery smooth slow motion clips, in almost any situation. However, Apple can&rsquo;t afford to rest on its laurels here, as a handful of competitors have edged ahead in the snapping stakes: the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/g3/lg-g3/review">LG G3</a>, <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sony/sony-xperia-z2/review">Sony Xperia Z2</a> and <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-s5/samsung-galaxy-s5/review">Samsung Galaxy S5</a> are all arguably superior photo performers.</p> <p><strong>Will it get it?</strong><br />Hard to say for certain &ndash; but we&rsquo;re leaning towards yes.&nbsp; With the new models being larger, there&rsquo;s more room inside for Apple&rsquo;s product engineers to play with, and some sources have said a 10MP or 13MP sensor is on the way as well as a larger f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilisation. The latter is a particularly smart bet, especially as spy shots appear to show a protruding camera lens &ndash; and because we know that&nbsp;<a href="http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;d=PG01&amp;p=1&amp;u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;s1=%2220140009631%22.PGNR.&amp;OS=DN/20140009631&amp;RS=DN/20140009631#ystfuv" target="_blank">Apple has patented a special optical image stabilisation method</a>.</p> <p>Leaked shots of the iPhone 6&#39;s internals also show that Apple&#39;s managed to <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iphone-6/review/more-megapixels" target="_blank">shrink its two-tone LED flash</a> down into a single unit, explaining why spy shots od the iPhone 6&#39;s rear case only have one circular opening.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="That two-tone LED flash? Yes, the 5s is a top notch smartphone, but with almost-as-impressive Android handsets like the OnePlus One going for a paltry &pound;230, Apple&rsquo;s pricing is definitely pushing a number of potential customers into the arms of rival manufacturers.</p> <p><strong>Will it get it?</strong><br />We&rsquo;ve had few indications that Apple intends to lower the price on its flagship phones, and in the past the company has generally kept previous-generation devices around as the option for buyers operating on a tighter budget. Even the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/iphone-5c/review">iPhone 5c</a>, predicted by many to be &ldquo;the first budget iPhone&rdquo;, was basically just an iPhone 5 with a natty plastic body and a decidedly non-budget asking price. Battery life is often one of the last things manufacturers talk about when bigging up their new phone, because thanks to huge screens and life-sapping quad-core processors, most phones will, at some point, have you anxiously scrambling for a charger when it&rsquo;s really inconvenient. The iPhone 5s has enough battery to get the average user through a day of normal use, but it&rsquo;s not the best out there.</p> <p><strong>Will it get it?</strong><br />If rumours are accurate, it just might. With both iPhone 6 models rocking a bigger body, there&rsquo;s space inside for a bigger fuel tank, and reports claim it might be a 2,100mAh capacity battery &ndash; a big jump from the 1,560mAh battery inside the iPhone 5s. Of course, there&rsquo;ll be a bigger screen (or rather, bigger screens) to power, so it could be that overall battery life remains roughly the same. We&rsquo;ve also seen a leaked shot of a 2,915mAh battery, which could be destined for the larger 5.5in model.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Some iPhone 6 batteries, apparently" alt="Some iPhone 6 batteries, apparently" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/iphone-6-batteries_2.jpg?1409315581" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-5"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Water resistance </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>Why does it need it?</strong><br />Two of the iPhone&rsquo;s biggest competitors, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Sony Xperia Z2, are both water resistant, and we can&rsquo;t count the number of times we&rsquo;ve heard iPhone-using friends and family members bemoaning their dead devices thanks to unplanned dips in the bath, basin or bog. Waterproofing would save a lot of tears.</p> <p><strong>Will it get it?</strong><br />Probably not. Much has been written and leaked concerning the iPhone 6&rsquo;s build, and barely any of it suggests that Apple has decided to seal the phone against the watery ravages of a dunking. There&rsquo;s still hope, of course, but this is one feature we definitely wouldn&rsquo;t bet on. The iPhone 6 body has leaked countless times over the past year in various forms, and now actual (and apparently genuine) production cases have made their way into the hands of online tech aficionados.</p> <p>The video above, courtesy of YouTube user iCrackUriDevice, shows off one of these rear cases, and it clearly shows off Apple&#39;s new design in all its glory.</p> <p>It&#39;s immediately obvious that the iPhone 6 will likely arrive with a bigger screen. The case is larger than the iPhone 5s, and its thinner, with a much rounder design.</p> <p>One big change is the relocation of the power button from the top to the right hand side, where it will be easily accessible with your thumb, Samsung Galaxy-style.</p> <p>Looking at the rear, the pill-shaped flash cutout has been replaced by a circular one, suggesting that Apple has either ditched its dual two-tone LED flash, or it&#39;s managed to cram both LEDs into a circular space.</p> <p>The volume buttons however, have appeared to do the reverse. They are now a thinner&nbsp;pill shape, falling in line with the iPod Touch, as opposed to the circular buttons currently found on the iPhone 5s.</p> <p>Looking at the internals of the case, we can see a slight recess over the Apple logo cutout. This, combined with the fact that previous Apple logos weren&#39;t left as cutouts, suggests that the logo will light up, like the ones found on its MacBook brothers.</p> <p>This is supported by previous photos leaked by&nbsp;<a href="http://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/news/2014/07/iphone_6_new_unseen_photos_could_confirm_light_up_notifications/" target="_blank">uSwitch</a>&nbsp;(with the aid of famed Apple leaker Sonny Dickson), which show off the rear housing of an iPhone 6, with a plastic panel that&#39;s thin enough to let line shine through it.</p> <p>Apart from attracting moths, the logo could be used as a blinking notification light - a handy function if the device is face down.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="video-wrapper youtube-player-wrapper"> <iframe width="640" height="385" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="600" height="450" title="Glow-tastic" alt="Apple iPhone 6" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/iphone-6-logo_2.jpg?1409308058" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Back in June,&nbsp;<a href="http://www.gsmarena.com/exclusive_iphone_6_sized_up_to_galaxy_s5-news-8773.php" target="_blank">GSM Arena</a>&nbsp;snaffled a picture of the phone alongside its likely main rival, the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-s5/samsung-galaxy-s5/review" target="_blank">Samsung Galaxy S5.</a></p> <p>The image shows off the expected larger screen, along with a clearly visible power switch on the right edge.&nbsp;</p> <p>Another iPhone 6 dummy leak courtesy of <a href="http://www.gforgames.com/gadgets/space-grey-iphone-6-vs-iphone-5s-htc-one-m8-44032/">G for Games</a>&nbsp;also emerged,&nbsp;this time apparently of a non-working dummy model.</p> <p>The first image above shows it next to an iPhone 5s and HTC One (M8). The system is much more secure than magnetic attachment, and if if true, the iPhone 6 will be even more of a formidable pocket camera than the iPhone 5s already is.</p> <p>One month after that,&nbsp;Chinese analyst Sun Chang Xu stated that the iPhone 6&#39;s camera will increase its 1.5&micro; pixel size to 1.7&micro;. That&#39;s close to the HTC One (M8)&#39;s 2&micro; pixel size &ndash; the much-touted &quot;Ultrapixel&quot; camera that&#39;s designed to excel at low-light shooting. Xu also claims that the iPhone 6&#39;s camera will feature electronic image stabilisation to reduce blur.</p> <p>Optical Image Stabilisation reared its head again in June.&nbsp;</p> <p>A &lsquo;floating lens&rsquo; design was described, outlining how it could help stabilise photos, making up for jerky hand&nbsp;movements. It&rsquo;ll also allow for a longer shutter speed, which will result in more&nbsp;light being captured, with less blur to boot. We&#39;ve already seen benefits of this system in devices like the LG G3.</p> <p>Analysts from<a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2014/06/24/optical-image-stabilization-iphone-6/" target="_blank">&nbsp;Pacific Crest Securities</a>&nbsp;believe that the OIS tech will be limited&nbsp;to the larger 5.5in iPhone 6 model, which could be due to supply constraints,&nbsp;or Apple could simply be releasing the larger model as its flagship device.</p> <p><strong>Update 08/08/14:&nbsp;</strong>Feld &amp; Volk&#39;s photos also show off a protruding camera lens, supporting previous rumours. That means that while pretty much every other top of the range smartphone is quad-core, Apple&#39;s apparently happy sticking with dual-core. He believes that Apple will include pressure, temperature and humidity senors in the iPhone 6.&nbsp;The pressure sensor will reportedly measure atmospheric pressure as opposed to blood pressure, which is instead a skill that&#39;s expected to be a part of the iWatch&#39;s sensory arsenal for iOS 8&#39;s <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/ios-8-could-track-your-fitness-new-healthbook-app/news" target="_blank">Health app</a>.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iwatch/review" target="_blank">Apple iWatch: price, specs, release date - everything we think we know</a></strong></p> <p>The environmental sensors are expected to be managed by the iPhone 6&#39;s M7 motion co-processor, which&#39;ll leave&nbsp;iPhone 6&#39;s main processor free to run more demanding apps and games.</p> <p>While weather apps already take care of temperature and humidity information for your general area, there is one&nbsp;overlooked bonus - GPS accuracy. If you&#39;re worried that this won&#39;t be enough memory for a flagship smartphone (after all, most high-end Android phones sport at least 2GB), consider that iPhones have traditionally always had fairly low levels of RAM and have traditionally always performed exceptionally well, thanks to Apple&#39;s highly optimised operating system. In any case, take this report with a big pinch of salt.</p> <p><strong>Update 29/08/14:</strong> Is Apple finally adding NFC to the iPhone? <a href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/08/29/apple-reportedly-taps-chipmaker-nxp-for-iphone-6-nfc-solution" target="_blank">The evidence is mounting that, yes, it is</a> &ndash; and apparently it&#39;s all so the iPhone 6 can basically act like a touchless credit card. All previous versions of iOS have debuted with a new bit of hardware, and given that we know iOS 8 will be out in the autumn, it stands to reason that it will arrive on the iPhone 6.</p> <p>So what&#39;s new about it? Rather a lot, actually.</p> <p>For starters, iOS 8 will mark a major break with the past for Apple, in that third-party apps will have greater access to the OS&#39; inner workings. You&#39;ll now be able to install third-party widgets into the Notification Centre, add third-party keyboards such as Swype and SwiftKey.</p> <p>Apps will also be able to install extensions within other apps. So, for instance, tapping on an image within Apple&#39;s Photos apps will give you the option to apply filters from other photography apps you may have installed.</p> <p>They&#39;ll even be able to work with Touch ID, so the possibility of paying for an eBay purchase with the tap of a finger is now very real. But, because of the way Apple will still control security, third-party apps won&#39;t themselves have access to your fingerprint or other sensitive info - so you won&#39;t need to worry about your data being stolen.</p> <p>As has long been rumoured, iOS 8 will also see the arrival of a Health app. It&#39;ll work with the new HealthKit tool for devs and will collect data from all of your third-party health and fitness apps, syncing and presenting it all in the one place.</p> <p>Even without any hardware developments, Health could prove a very useful app. Health and fitness trackers are notoriously bad at working well with each other, meaning that you usually have to go into several apps in order to view all of your data. Apple&#39;s solution could put an end to this, and big partners such as Nike are already on board.</p> <p>That said, we wouldn&#39;t be surprised to see Apple include a hardware feature or two to make the most of the new app. The iPhone 5s&#39; M7 motion co-processor is already capable of tracking and analysing movement data, but if the iPhone 6 included a heart-rate monitor such as the one on the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-s5/samsung-galaxy-s5/review">Samsung Galaxy S5</a>, that would give it greater powers. Or maybe that&#39;s something that will feature on the fabled <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iwatch/review">iWatch</a>...</p> <p>Gaming should be big news on the iPhone 6. As well as having a larger, more finger-friendly screen and more powerful processor, it&#39;ll also gain new skills via iOS 8. Apple&#39;s invented a new programming language, called Swift, and a developer tool called Metal, and together they should bring console-quality graphics to the iPhone.</p> <p>At WWDC, Apple showed off a demo of a game called <em>Zen Garden</em>, which looked seriously nice. The App Store is also being reworked to make it easier to find the best games (and apps in general), and we expect big releases to arrive with iOS 8 in the autumn.</p> <p>And then there&#39;s Continuity. That&#39;s Apple&#39;s name for a raft of services which link your iPhone to your iPad and your Mac, so long as it&#39;s running the new <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/mac-os-x-yosemite/review">OS X Yosemite</a> (which will also debut in the autumn). Chief among them is Handoff, which will let you start a task on one device and continue it on another. For instance you could tap out half an email on your iPhone, then stroll over to your Mac and with a single click on the Mail icon, finish it off there.&nbsp;You&#39;ll also be able to pick up phone calls on your Mac using your iPhone&#39;s connection, or create a hot spot with a single click when you don&#39;t have any Wi-Fi.</p> <p>And we could go on: iCloud Drive will bring Dropbox-like document storage and syncing to iOS; Family Sharing will enable you to share iTunes and App Store purchases with up to six family members; HomeKit will let Apple control all of your home-automation gadgets; mail and messaging will get new abilities; Siri will be smarter; Photos will be synced across devices... But this is an iPhone 6 preview, so we&#39;ll say no more about iOS 8, except that you&#39;ll get a full analysis of it in our <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/ios-8/review">iOS 8 preview</a>.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/ios-8/review">iOS 8 preview - everything you need to know about Apple&#39;s new mobile OS</a></strong></p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/mac-os-x-yosemite/review">Apple Mac OS X Yosemite preview</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="iOS 8 running on the 5s" alt="Apple iPhone 6 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/apple-ios-8-review-03.jpg?1409308058" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Apple iPhone 6 review" alt="You&#039;ll now be able to install widgets into Notification Centre" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/ios-8-widgets_1.jpg?1409308058" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="900" title="Apple iPhone 6 review" alt="Third-party keyboards will be a feature on iOS 8" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/ios-8-third-party-keyboards_1.jpg?1409308058" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-4"> <div class="field-label">Image #4:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_4" width="1200" height="900" title="Apple iPhone 6 review" alt="The Health app will be new to iOS 8" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/ios-8-health_1.jpg?1409308058" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-16"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Price and release date </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>We expect the iPhone 6 models to launch with the same price tags as their iPhone 5s counterparts.&nbsp;</p> <p>Apple is reportedly looking to avoid any chance of iPhone 6 shortages by ensuring some 70 to 80 million units are ready to be sold this year alone. According to the&nbsp;<a href="http://stream.wsj.com/story/apples-new-iphone/SS-2-49206/SS-2-585440/" target="_blank">Wall Street Journal</a>, the company has requested its China-based suppliers deliver this amount &ndash; easily the largest initial production run of an iPhone model &ndash; by the end of December. To give you some perspective of how many units this represents, there were 50 to 60 million iPhone 5s and 5c units manufactured in 2013.</p> <p>In January,<strong>&nbsp;a</strong>nalyst Timothy Arcuri claimed that the iPhone 6 will launch in <a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2014/01/22/iphone-6-80211ac/" target="_blank">September</a>, as its predecessors have, citing sources within the supply chain.</p> <p>Fast forward to May, and news of Apple supplier Pegatron receiving a 15 per cent share of orders for the 4.7in iPhone 6 hit the internet, courtesy of Taiwan&#39;s <a href="http://ctee.com.tw/News/Content.aspx?id=518756&amp;yyyymmdd=20140507&amp;f=0d427af3103c9091f4a9eb51c4c75dae" target="_blank">Commercial Times</a> (via <a href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/05/07/rumor-apple-supplier-pegatron-nets-orders-for-47-inch-iphone-6-to-ship-in-september-" target="_blank">AppleInsider</a>).&nbsp;</p> <p>German carrier Deutsche Telekom then reportedly told its call centre representatives that the iPhone 6 will hit store shelves on Friday 19th September, according to <a href="http://www.apfelpage.de/2014/05/27/iphone-6-telekom-bereitet-sich-auf-marktstart-vor/" target="_blank">apfelpage.de</a>. <a href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/05/27/german-carrier-allegedly-enticing-customers-to-stay-by-claiming-sept-19-iphone-6-launch" target="_blank">AppleInsider</a> points out that the date is likely an educated guess, though it&#39;s consistent with previous iPhone launches.</p> <p>Apple itself announced that iOS 8 will be available &quot;this fall&quot;. That&#39;s American-speak for this autumn. So September is still looking likely.</p> <p><strong>Update 06/08/14:</strong> Both the <a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2014/08/05/apple-to-introduce-new-iphones-at-sept-9-event/" target="_blank">Wall Street Journal</a> and tech site <a href="http://recode.net/2014/08/05/codered-apple-to-hold-iphone-event-on-sept-9/" target="_blank">Re/code </a>are reporting that Apple will hold a launch event on 9 September, with a predicted release date of 19 September. Apple has, unsurprisingly, declined to comment, and there&#39;s no sign of an official invite at this stage. Stay tuned for more info, as and when we get it.</p> <p><strong>Update 28/08/14:</strong> It&#39;s official; Apple has <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/its-official-apple-sends-out-invites-9-september-event/news" target="_blank">sent out invites to an event on 9 September</a>, which will almost certainly herald the launch of the iPhone 6. Previous event invites have pointed to details of the products being revealed; with a minimalist white design, and a tagline of &quot;Wish we could say more,&quot; Apple is certainly playing things close to the chest this time. </p> <p>The tagline could refer to an overhaul of the voice-controlled Siri virtual assistant, to be released as part of iOS 8; or it may be a coy reference to rumours that the release of the rumoured iWatch has been brought forward to tie in with the iPhone 6 launch. Whatever the case, we&#39;ll find out in a few short weeks.</p> <p><strong>Update 29/08/14:</strong> <a href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/08/28/apples-mysterious-2-story-structure-at-site-of-sept-9-event-drives-frenzy-even-further" target="_blank">Apple is building a large, mysterious structure</a> on the side of Cupertino&#39;s Flint Center (the site of 9 September&#39;s launch event). The Flint Center is also much bigger than Apple&#39;s previous regular venue, San Francisco&#39;s Yerba Buena Center, being able to hold 3,000 people as opposed to 700. These two factors suggest that this launch event will be one of the biggest in Apple&#39;s history. Excited yet?</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/smartphones/top-ten">These are the 10 best smartphones in the world right now</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="733" height="655" title="Price and release date" alt="Apple iPhone 6" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/apple-invite-02_0.jpg?1409308058" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-title"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Jump straight to: </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-body-text"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Body Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iphone-6/review" target="_blank"><strong>Apple iPhone 6 - build and screen</strong></a></p> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iphone-6/review/more-megapixels" target="_self"><strong>Apple iPhone 6 - camera</strong></a></p> <p><strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-iphone-6/review/beefier-insides-cavernous-storage-and-sensors-galore" target="_self">Apple iPhone 6 - processor, storage and battery</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-review-rating"><legend>Review Rating</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-review-score"> <div class="field-label">Score:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> 0 </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-preview"> <div class="field-label">Preview:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Preview </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-carousel-item"><legend>Carousel Extras</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-text field-field-carousel-item-title"> <div class="field-label">Carousel item title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Apple iPhone 6 preview </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-carousel-item-standfirst"> <div class="field-label">Carousel item standfirst:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> What kind of phone will Apple reveal on 9 September? The screen&rsquo;s physical dimensions are well known: 5.5 inches. But the resolution has been subject to speculation.</p> <p><a href="http://daringfireball.net/2014/08/larger_iphone_display_conjecture" target="_blank">Apple expert John Gruber&rsquo;s reasoning</a> delves deeply into Apple&rsquo;s approach to iOS, based around screen points and usability. This is in stark contrast to many sites that have just yelled 1080p and made a break for the pub, or oddly argued Apple&rsquo;s flagship device would have an identical resolution to the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, but with less sharpness.</p> <p>Gruber speculates there&rsquo;ll be a 1334 x 750 Retina display on the 4.7-inch model and a 2208 x 1224 kind of &rsquo;super Retina&#39; display on the 5.5-inch iPhone 6L, which packs even more pixels into a tiny space. This would leave the iPhone short of the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/g3/lg-g3/review" target="_blank">LG G3</a>&rsquo;s &lsquo;Quad HD&rsquo; 2560 x 1440 resolution, but no doubt Apple will nonetheless argue its screen&rsquo;s revolutionary anyway, while iOS developers en masse smack their heads repeatedly into their desks at having to support yet more resolutions and deal with new scaling issues.</p> <p>On the plus side, some swift back-of-an-envelope calculations here at Stuff HQ suggest this resolution provides space for an extra row and column of icons on every home screen! (<em>Stuff</em> sometimes wonders why Apple doesn&rsquo;t just shove a Phone app and associated technical gubbins into an iPad and be done with it.)</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/moto-g/best-cheap-smartphone-you-can-buy/feature">Group test - the best cheap smartphones</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Bigger, bolder, battery-er </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>There are two ways to look at the iPhone 6L: one is that it&rsquo;s a big iPhone 6 and will merrily utilise the smaller device&rsquo;s innards, but also have a bigger battery, in order to deal with the larger display. <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2014/08/15/purported-photos-of-5-5-inch-iphone-6l-show-outer-shell-battery-and-more/" target="_blank">Rumours point to</a> a 2915mAh beast inside the unit, versus a 1810mAh battery in the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the relatively wee 1560mAh in the iPhone 5s.</p> <p>The other way is that it&rsquo;ll be the iPhone 6 with more of everything. A new A8 chip is likely to be unveiled, at <a href="https://twitter.com/SonnyDickson/statuses/444604977290301440" target="_blank">twice the speed of the A7</a>, and it could conceivably <a href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/08/04/analyst-apple-could-equip-55-iphone-6-with-more-powerful-processor-than-47-model" target="_blank">be clocked higher on the larger iPhone or have more graphics clout</a>. There&rsquo;s also the possibility Apple could bung more RAM in the device, upping the relatively miserly rumoured 1GB on the iPhone 6 to 2GB in the iPhone 6L. This could make split-screen multi-tasking a feature of the larger model, without apps grinding to a halt.</p> <p>Another slice of conjecture is a rather curious rumour surrounding optical image stabilisation. <a href="https://commerce.us.reuters.com/purchase/showReportDetail.do?docid=67025347" target="_blank">According to KGI</a>, Apple might limit this advanced feature to the iPhone 6L due to expense, shortage of components, and the requirement to further differentiate its new devices.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/icheapskate-25-best-free-apps-iphone-and-ipad/feature">iCheapskate - 38 amazing free apps for iPhone and iPad</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Leaked shots of the battery in the &quot;iPhone 6L&quot;" alt="Apple iPhone 6L review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/iphone-6L-review-02.jpg?1409318285" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> More bang, more buck(s) </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Pricing for iPhones has remained reasonably stable in recent years, and it would seem UK off-contract iPhone 5s price-points will become iPhone 6 price-points in September. That&rsquo;s because this isn&#39;t just another blurry leaked shot from somewhere along the supply chain &ndash; the source this time is China Telecom, one of Apple&rsquo;s largest telecommunications partners in the Far East.</p> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/users/hafizahosman" title="View user profile.">Hafizah Osman</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Convincing – but nothing new </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Looking closely at the shot, it seems to sit in line with many of the other spy shots that have been previously leaked. So it might be the most on-the-nose image of the iPhone 6 yet, but it doesn&#39;t offer up a whole lot of surprises or new information about the smartphone.</p> <p>It&rsquo;s most likely coming in a trio of colour options &ndash; gold, black, and silver &ndash; since all three appear on the poster. In addition, according to China Telecom, it will support a range of networks: WCDMA, CDMA2000, GSM, CDMA1X and two kinds of 4G LTE network.</p> <p>China Telecom&#39;s poster represents what feels like the millionth pre-release image of the iPhone 6, which must be the most leaked smartphone in history.
